Ron Paul's portfolio

Post by Benko »

http://townhall.com/columnists/patbucha ... ators_oped

21% real estate
14% cash
0% bonds
0.1% stocks shorting positions
rest (almost 2/3) gold and silver mining companies

""You can say this for Ron Paul," conceded the Journal. "In investing as in politics, (Paul) has the courage of his convictions."

Indeed, he does. Paul's investments mirror his belief that the empire of debt is coming down and Western governments will never repay -- in dollars of the same value -- what they have borrowed.

Ron Paul told a similar story in the early 1980s to the one he is telling today about inflation.

In the early 1980s Ron Paul was almost exactly wrong about the continuation of inflation and devaluation of the dolar.

Is he right today?  Who knows?

I love Ron Paul's independent thinking on political subjects, but when it comes to investing I don't think he has any more insight than anyone else.

For someone who only thinks in terms of inflation, the deflation that a period of deleveraging can cause can seem like a very foreign concept.

Thanks MT.

I only posted this because I thought it was interesting how much he had in metal related investments.  Reminds me of this person:

http://somehelpful.info/Finance/No-Brainer-PPF.htm

who advocates  various " no brainer PPFs" of varying amounts of silver/gold and cash.  I had run across his site when I first was searching for info on the permanent portfolio.

Funny that the google ad for this thread is showing a banner of scantily clothed women with big busts and the text underneath says, "68 people +1'ed this post."

LOL.

I'm not sure which ad is more truthful?

Why does he own just mining stocks and not metal? Even if the USD got scrapped and replaced I still don't see that mining stocks would neccessarily prevail. Imagining that mining stocks will prevail seems to me to be putting one plus one together and getting 42.

Stone,

I almost know he's got more gold the govt doesn't know about in his texas ranch than all the posters here combined.

I see what you mean moda, he doesn't need to publicly declare any gold holdings that may be part of his portfolio.

In Google AdSense  you can see if people are targeting your site specifically for ads. On my blog you'll be happy to know that Mitt Romney has thought highly enough to send ads my way specifically.

Now in terms of ads, the "The Nine Best Stocks to Own, Right Now." is probably more truthful than Mitt.

I admire Ron Paul's political views on most (though not all) issues.  But I have to agree that his portfolio is very high risk.
