Love it, Hal!
The American way, and perhaps the way of many school systems in the world, is Prepare; Ace Test; Forget.

Definitely my mode. First priority was always getting the A. If I learned while achieving that goal, good.

For something a bit more modern, here's the exams for the end of Australian High School.
How do they compare with the USA/elsewhere equivalents?

ps: Loved this line from University ; 50% is a pass, 51 is a good pass, 52 is a wasted effort!

Nobody remembers anything that isnt required to do their job or hobby. I dunno how to fix that...small class sizes and private tutors can direct students to topics they have an actual interest in. Maybe cash incentives, I didnt know anything about econ until it was my savings on the line. Maybe kids spend too much time sheltered in college.
Somewhat related, we need more Miltons these days but this talk isnt very specific. what exactly is he saying the Fed should have done. my guess, is the Fed was afraid to lend (real gold) to credit worthy business. Also no one talks about the supply shock of the dust bowl. Food prices should have hyperinflated, maybe the Fed "prevented" that at greater overall cost.

I’ve been meaning to acknowledge your post above, boglerdude, but I had nothing to add and…

I guess I could add that Jeremy Grantham indirectly referred to Milton Friedman* as a pychopath, but that’s because of his literal interpetation of M.F.’s quote.
*(Was it Friedman? I’ll have to find the quote to make sure.)
EDIT: oh yeah, i think it was
