Re: First Movie You Remember Seeing
First I can remember is Star Wars although it certainly wasn’t my real first.
My parents said they told me to Midnight Cowboy when I was a baby because they couldn’t get a sitter. I think it was rated X at the time.

A Clockwork Orange, when I was about six.
Probably the root cause of many of my problems but on the plus side it did make me a lifelong Beethoven fan.

Yikes!!
I hated the movie primarily because I'm a huge Beethoven fan. I certainly don't want to associate the two. I can't imagine letting a six-year-old see it...

Why is this in the politics subsection? Will Vinny go on and prove a point about movie memories and generational media exposure being responsible for political biases?
Good point, Sir. Some members might opt out of Politics and never see this. Moved to Other Discussions § / DS
Anyway, the very first movie I remember seeing is Independence Day. I would have been 8-years old at the time.
EXCELLENT movie to this day, and holds up very well to modern standards.

Davey Crockett?

Close Encounters of the Third Kind came out in ‘77 as well. Maybe this one? I remember the whispers in the theater.

The first movie I can remember is The Wizard of Oz, as shown on TV when I was about four. I was so traumatized by the Wicked Witch that my parents had to send me to bed-- and then I had nightmares for days.Fortunately I recovered and eventually it became an annual event at our home.
I still think it is one of the best movies ever made, along with Gone With the Wind, which was also directed by Victor Fleming.
I made sure to watch it with my daughter when she was growing up. We always sang all of the words to all of the songs together.

I have civilian pictures of her from when I was visiting a friend in Maine in 1976. I think she was friends with my friend's grandmother.
