FYI current avatar is not a Ukrainian victory thing. It’s the logo of Roskomnadzor, Russia’s media censor.

Yup, there is something similar in between German and Russian languages in the way they have words that are aggregation of other words.. not really like the standard abbreviating, but more like a shortened aggregation ;D When it comes to 'nadzor' (control&monitoring) I have issues of a similar nature - using (since years) Kaspersky Total security on almost all my laptops, tablets (kids inclusive) and Android mobiles.. Especially in the Christmas period when I renew my licenses, Amazon have really great discounts for many device subscriptions... So I had some paranoia attack weeks ago.. now is better, still using Kaspersky though :o

I cannot imagine using Kaspersky, although my dad used to use it and my elderly neighbor uses it. I do use the Telegram app, but hey, they're dissidents. O0 (Actually, I read this week that Roskomnadzor gave up trying to shut down Telegram for good in 2020, opting instead to add their own propaganda channels).

I was going to mention that I had a History of English professor who said the difference between German compounds and English compounds is a space, but now I see what you're getting at. Abbreviating to a few letters, but not all the way to mere initials.

Nationalsozialismus ⇢ Nazi

Instances of that in English do seem scant. Radar is one, as it does use the Ra from Radio at the beginning.

Does Bulgarian do that?

Well for me this has been the case since years, as I needed (and still need) protection of decent quality for my work environments too. Even though what I am doing is being insured, I would not bet my farm on this insurance covering what possibly my clients can decide to sue me on. But still I am not using some of the plethora of extra tools Kaspersky provide (e.g. VPN, PasswordManager I do not use)
Regarding Eugene Kaspersky, he slightly changed his vocabulary, which might be considered a kind of positive change - in his early tweets he was referring to 'situation in Ukraine', now he talks about the 'war in Ukraine'. But it comes dangerous, when someone (human or animal) is put in the corner, then many things can go awry. Hope he never feels it that way.

Russians are masters in that aspect. Quite common is the use of 'маш' (like you can use 'mach' for machine) - Ространсмаш (Rostransmash), etc
German language have quite some such constructions, and sometimes they even do not dare to shorten the used words - freundschaftsbeziehungen should be quite self explanatory ;D (a sort of showing friendship relation with someone)

No, actually no - we just make fun of Russian and German languages :)

(joypog) But I can't even remember my first avatar...what was it again? Was it my bunny eating a watermelon?

it was a colorful cartoon of someone in a raincoat with an umbrella.

I Shrugged has a nice new avatar that looks like it might be from ‘V for Vendetta’. And of course it is reminiscent of a certain recent Biden State of the Union address.

I used to use a V avatar (Hugo Weaving, main character) on other forums.

I think I have read 2/3's of them. Never heard of Palmer or those two books.

I will not offer any resistance as I don't know if I currently have the capacity to do so.

I thought about making this comment on my iPhone (I wonder if Elon has an iPhone? Bet you got a real charge out of that question.) - it has a lightening connector.

Speaking of electricity, there's a really interesting video about how it doesn't work the way we usually think it does.

Start with the end of this video, which sets up the thought experiment:

And then move on to the followup video which really does a great job of explaining:
