The Bank of Canada just raised our country's benchmark interest rate to 0.5% today!

At 0.5% just stuff hard currency under the mattress instead alongside your gold. Maybe in a years time it might have gained 50% in stock purchase power (shares down -33%), or 50% more ounces of gold, or long dated treasuries paying a higher yield.
