What's crazy is that a large number of those stores in San Francisco have responded to the decriminalized shoplifting by permanently closing. The nerve!

If stores keep closing to avoid the decriminalized shoplifting, where will the shoplifters get their free stuff? It seems to me that the only logical solution is to pass a new law that makes it illegal for a store to permanently close just because it ceases to be profitable.

San Francisco in 2021, meet New York City in the 1970s. Guess we know where that city is heading, and fast. Dear God, hoping that brand of insanity doesn't happen here in NY.

It looks like Eric Adams is going to run away with the NYC mayor election. That would mean we get our crime unit & broken windows policies back, reopening of Riker's Island, and someone with the nerve and ability to tell Andrew Cuomo where to stuff his bail (aka "catch and release") law. Fingers crossed.

Interestingly, the polls & news coverage are looking like a microcosm of what happened in the national election. NY Post is reporting Eric Adams as having an 8 point lead over the 2nd place candidate, while MSN is reporting the election is a "tossup" and doing their best to smear Adams. Who is, amazingly enough, black.

Sounds like SF is heading towards a buying opportunity! I like the sound of that more than NYC, SF weather seems just about perfect.

I concur!!!

I was there only once. July 1981. During the day I was wearing both a sweater and a leather jacket and I was still cold! But great live music scene!

Would it be recommended to have the items you want to steal rang up first so you can be sure you are under the prosecution limit?

Is the cap before or after sales tax?

You have to wait until the city hits rock bottom, and townhouses are being sold for a dollar. Then yeah, that would be the time to buy!
