Interesting market timing talk

Post by Hal »

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUU8ZY9G-Ng

and further musings ::)

Portfolio 1 - BelangP's 35/65 Gold/Shares
Portfolio 2 - Benjamin Grahams 50/50 Bonds/Shares
Portfolio 2 - Harry's PP

and why do we do this ;D

Left Victoria (aka Danistan) and took my mother to South Australia.
Visited Mount Gambier -> https://www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au. and
Visited Glenelg -> https://www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au

Thanks to HB I am not forced to work but can have her stay with me for the last few years of her life. How good is that!
Money can buy happiness!!!

ps: The difference in the two States is unbelievable. Melbourne looked like a scene from the 50's "On the Beach" movie. South Australia looked as though it was business as usual.

Since I'm already retired for a few years now the most important number to me is the SWR for the portfolio. I don't know if Portfolio visualizer calculates this but Tyler does so I ran the numbers for these portfolios including Tyler's own Golden Butterfly (which I use) and this is what I found.

Portfolio 1 - BelangP's 35/65 Gold/Shares = 5.4%
Portfolio 2 - Benjamin Grahams 50/50 Bonds/Shares = 4.5% (Don't know details so assuming close to 60/40)
Portfolio 2 - Harry's PP = 5.3%
Portfolio 4 - Golden Butterfly (PP + SCV) = 6.4%

I have no idea what goes into calculating this figure on Tyler's website but his own Golden Butterfly actually beats the pants off of every other professional recommendation he has listed. I was only planning on the traditional 4% so I hope he is right.

Here's the PP vs the GB.
Always thought of the GB as Benjamin Grahams portfolio with Gold.......

Shame we don't have a meaningful SCV in Australia.

Hal, the past however many months have been tough in general, and in particular on this forum. It is really heartwarming to hear your success story. It makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks for posting that.

I visited Australia a couple of years ago but never made it to the Southern Part. Actually wouldn't have even known where it was at the time. Got familiar enough with Celsius that I didn't have to convert to Fahrenheit but I was still struggling with South/North, Up/Down.
