Lately I've been asking my wiretap for protein pancake recipes specifically!

I was going to say you ARE are resident Forum wit! But you do have some formidable competition here! None form me, of course!

Is there an online primer somewhere that initiates the unwashed masses into the mysteries of r/WSB, r/wallstreetbets, u/DeepFuckingValue, $BB, and the various meme videos and gifs that have those terms sprinkled around in them?
Re: The Meme Thread
If you frequent the Wall Street Bets subreddit long enough then the inanity will start to make sense.Tortoise wrote: ↑Sat Jan 16, 2021 4:37 pmHave no idea what I just watched.Smith1776 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 15, 2021 4:16 pm Omg guys. Please do yourself a favour and watch this video.

WSB members refer to themselves as "degenerates", "retards", and "autists" as they YOLO their live savings into meme stocks like Blackberry ($BB) and Gamestop (GME). Yes, they call themselves these names. Jim Cramer has started to refer to WSB as its own hedge fund, as its influence has started to grow enough to start pushing prices around.
u/DeepFuckingValue is the current king of that subreddit as he YOLO'd GME call options and made a bundle. Someone made a back of the envelope calculation recently and he supposedly owns something like 0.2% of the company at this point.
Really, WSB and the success of many of its "autists" is at least partially a testament to efficient markets. Dumbass YOLO plays made by a group of self-described morons are easily keeping up with, and in many cases outperforming, hedge funds headed by the proverbial Harvard MBAs.

Re: The Meme Thread
Ah, thanks for the background, Smithy!
It looks like r/wallstreetbets is publicly accessible, but r/WSB is private. What’s the story there — are they related?

Re: The Meme Thread
No probs magobs.
An unfortunate naming collision. They aren't related.

Re: The Meme Thread
That's weird. I could have sworn that was not the case previously. Though last time I looked was like a year ago to be fair.

Re: The Meme Thread
Me neither. Sorry, Smithers
We must all seem really old to you. But I *am* glad you’re enjoying.
If that’s about Jim Cramer on cnbc i can’t stand him, but not because he’s Gollum. It’s because he talks about his wife’s restaurant and Italy or his dad & baseball or some inside joke that Carl and David have to explain. And maybe a few words about stocks — usually how he met the CEO. Unwatchable. Bloomberg & Fox Biz are better. What do they watch in Canada?
Tell me in another thread if you want.

Re: The Meme Thread
We don't have much in terms of any kind of robust or highly-watched money show here in Canada. We pretty well just piggyback off of U.S. outlets like CNBC.dualstow wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 6:50 pm Me neither. Sorry, SmithersWe must all seem really old to you. But I *am* glad you’re enjoying.
