YouTube election censorship

Post by SomeDude »

A channel i frequent just posted that YouTube announced a new policy today of banning any video discussing irregularities in the election. It will probably be retroactive also.

If true I'm going to preempt the liberal thought process and state that YouTube banning discussion of election fraud proves it doesn't exist. I mean.....if it actually did occur and there was evidence they'd show it right? They're only banning the evidence being shared because there's no evidence!! :o

The US presidential election is supposedly next week, it's the biggest story in the country by far and my youtube feed has virtually nothing in it. All flooded with nonsense.

It is on my feed. Why are they nonstop sending me SNL clips? I haven't watched that trash since Farley, Phil Hartman etc.

Why am I getting clips from "Back to the Future" lol? Virtually everything I've looked at for the last month has been related to the fraud investigation surrounding the election. Now it's all dried up and replaced with crap I have never looked at and never will.

I used to be interested in about 80% of the top 50 recommended videos in my feed.....now it's closer to 10% all of a sudden.

FWIW I basically never watch anything about politics on YouTube. But the quality of my feeds recommendations has also went down in recent years. 2 years ago I used to get all kinds of stuff I was interested in popping up. These days I rarely get anything in my recommendations I want to watch, outside of my existing "subscriptions". Over the last 2 years the amount I use YouTube has went down accordingly.

The same thing has happened to Netflix over the last couple of years as well. I used to have tons of Netflix shows I like. But they keep cancelling all the good shows and replacing them with crap. Likewise, the amount I use Netflix has also went down. For the first time in 20 years I'm considering cancelling Netflix.

The struggle is real all around for streaming these days. There's too much focus on quantity and not enough on quality. I would rather have fewer better YouTube recommendations, and I would also rather have fewer (and longer running) high quality shows on Netflix.

Democracy dies in darkness, says WaPo.

That might be the most Orwellian statement so far.

It's just a bit too short. The second sentence is "And we provide the blindfold."

In case you didn't know it youtube lets you flag videos with "Not Interested". On the computer it's in the menu with the 3 little dots when you hover over it. Also can do it on TV's with youtube apps. On mine you just hold down the select button and the menu pops up.

I do this every time something pops up from CNN or MSNBC.

Looks like YouTube started shutting down Scott Adams today by deleting one of his most recent videos.

It does. My wife sometimes forgets to log out and log in to her own account so I end up with lots of Filipino music and recipes for food. Once I clean it up with "not interested" enough it goes away and never comes back. As for CNN and MSNBC, it would be a lot better if they had a "This is fake news and I don't want to see it" option in the menu but without it I can only make it go away for a while.
