Argument for Trump

Post by doodle »

Going through a lot of message boards online trying to gauge how Trump supporters thinking. This one argument stuck out to me as making a lot of sense and is something the left really needs to think about.

Trump is a good prototype version of the conservative leader that we need to help defeat identity politics, Critical Race Theory, Marxism, Communism, Socialism, SJWs, whatever you want to call them.

The biggest problem conservatives had before Trump was that they were all quitters and losers who slunk away as soon as someone used any of the above in an attack. Take Mitt Romney, for example. What sunk his campaign?

Binders full of women
He'll put ya'll back in chains
He put a dog on the roof of his car
47% of people are dependent on the government
And what is the attack vector for each of these?

Identity politics
Identity politics
Meme/joke
Socialism

All we wanted, literally all we wanted, was someone who wouldn't immediately accept defeat whenever the left used these kinds of attacks. These are the left's primary weapons, why should we be running people who are weak to them?

Trump not perfect, but he had the single most important quality we needed: the willingness and ability to not throw in the towel as soon as the left pulls the identity politics card (which the left always does). A low bar, for sure, but remember that we're talking about neocons here, so you can't expect much from them.

Now we just need someone who can take that tenacity, put it back in a "respectable politician" shell (because people claim to hate politicians but only vote for the fakest politician personalities), and we're good to go.

TL;DR: Stop calling every single Republican candidate Hitler if you don't want us to elect only the kinds of people who can withstand those attacks.

So now you have this moment of clarity?

I stole this line from Lew Rockwell 4 years ago : “I’m not pro Trump. I’m not anti Trump. I’m anti anti Trump. Trump has the right enemies.”

Trump destroyed the neocon Republicans. And the Democrats. Except, the time of reckoning for the Dems has been put off while they united against him. Now their time to destruct has come.

Oh I realize how toxic the brew that the left cooks up can be. Trump's method of reaction though didn't help and I think exacerbated the problem. His bullying demeanor and insulting was the wrong tactic. He needed to rise above the fray...not instigate more.

The same criticism however goes for the right labeling people as baby killers and communists. Both sides are guilty of using these tactics.

Damn, I vaguely remember Harry Browne talking about Lew Rockwell but I never read his work. What of his do you suggest I check out first?
Lewrockwell.com has become very conspiracy oriented, unfortunately. But you can start by looking around there. There are usually some good pieces among the other stuff. Mises.org is much more about Austrian economics and related issues.
