I feel 100% safe in my neighborhood!

Well as long as you
feel safe, that's the important thing. Unless it's an illusion, then it's a dangerous feeling. /shrug
When I am sitting outside on my property with headphones on listening to music while reading. I feel 100% safe. I also 100% believe that I am safe.
In this county when there is physical violence it makes the front page of our county's newspaper.
I also am directly surrounded by young families who are seriously investing in improving their properties. Good situation for me. Tells me that they are going to be around for a while and are serious home owners. All home owners in my neighborhood. No renters.

Virtually all of the victims of violent crimes initially freeze up, because they can't believe it's happening to them. It's always going to happen to some other guy. Even though the FBI says 1.2 Million violent crimes per year, as we previously discussed.
Can't happen to me. Can't happen here. A lot of people probably died in Sep 11 WTC when they thought, no way, it's not a real fire alarm, that can't be a plane, can't be real. Nothing to worry about.
I hope nothing bad comes to you or your family and statistically speaking, there's a less than coin flip chance that it does in your lifetime, so I hope it works out in your favor. But it works against some people.
The rapist is going to rape someone, if not your daughter, then someone else's daughter. The armed robber is going to stuck a gun in someone's face, if not your wife, then someone else's wife. The murderer is going to murder someone, if not you, then someone else's husband/father.
Heck, to the people who live carefree like you and win the coin flip of life, you have a better life than me. Because I do worry and take precautions. I look over my shoulder when entering a dark street at night. I avoid looking at my cell phone in public when someone can jump out at me. I envy you, in a way. As long as nothing happens, that is.
Similar to how the PP sounds like a crazy idea. That's why we have so few members. Mention it on Bogleheads, and they lived through a 30 year bond bull and stock bull market, so the 80/20 portfolio has worked tremendously for them. They didn't live through crazy bullshit like HB describes can happen. So the idea of putting 25% in gold and keeping 25% in cash is lunacy to them. Similar to the idea of carrying a gun or owning a gun in your home is to you.
I don't think you have a sense of what it is like living in my neighborhood and in my county.
I can tell you that when I used to be in Springfield (Massachusetts) at night after a music show and had to walk only a few blocks to get to my car, I was always in fearful, full alert of all that was going on around me while on that walk back to my car. Constantly thinking of what I would do if anyone confronted me without good intent. Generally, the most I could think of was using the chair I was carrying as a weapon.
However, that kind of thought process is not required where I actually live. As I prior detailed, any acts of violence in this county are front page news in the county's newspaper. Weather may not be the greatest for someone who likes to spend a lot of time outdoors. But from a personal safety perspective, an excellent place to live.
Finally, I do carry a metal baseball bat in my car. Just in case.
I'm generally known and perceived as a nice, gentle person. But I've had enough prior events in my past to make me fairly confident that if I perceive the slightest threat to me there is a cold part of me that is going to go into instant self-defense with no mercy shown.
