Looking at the electoral maps of the counties in each state, whether the state is overall red or blue, illustrates clearly that in terms of geographic area, almost every state in the U.S. is a sea of red with small islands of blue on which the big cities sit.
So the real divide isn’t at the state level; it’s at the urban vs. suburban/rural level.
Can we form two nations, one consisting of all the big cities and the other consisting of everything else?
Ha! I'd like to see how the blue regions plan to feed themselves. Maybe it's time to replay the infamous YouTube video from 10 or so years ago featuring the airhead woman from California proclaiming to the legislature that food from "vegetable trees" is "free." Anybody happen to have the link?
It would be an interesting thing to witness, though, and it may end up happening in a number of states. For years, there's been talk of the formation of a new state of "Liberty" composed of portions of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
However, the problem remains that the progressive utopia, replete with free college, Medicare for everyone, bailouts for public pensions, universal basic income, etc., requires a whole lot of "somebodies" pulling the wagon. And you can bet it ain't them.
Ants and bees are so much nobler than humans. We really are a scourge on this planet..., loud, obnoxious, petulant, but entertaining creatures we are. I can understand why the buddhists ideal was to eventually not be reborn and finally escape the wheel of samsara.
