How long did it take you to swim that far? I guess longer than it would have without the jelly fish.Mark Leavy wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 9:35 pm I have to say that the strip between Perdido Key and Gulf Shores is pretty nice. You could do much worse than Flora Bama.
Except for the jelly fish. The little fuckers swiped my hip and calf while swimming from Florida to Alabama.

Mark, I have a couple of friends that live in that area. Maybe you should check out Ono Island if you haven’t already.

Mark, et al,
I was nailed twice by the Man-O'-War jellyfish. That was on eastern Long Island, NY. Consecutive summers, ages 12 and 13, and the purple welts lasted for more than a month before beginning to fade. Both times they occurred as I was leaving the bay. First time, I dropped my left elbow on the thing, while the 2nd time I dropped the wrist on it. Both times I contacted the dead center of the floating charmers.
Curiously, we always knew the jellyfish were there as we felt the little zings they fish put out when we were in proximity. Just a reality of swimming in July and August. Other times. the baby blowfish would nibble the legs and that was amusing. The big blowfish gives a nice bite if miss-handled in catch-and-release fishing. Eels were released, too.
We never thought twice about swimming with the Man-O-Wars. We never wore bicycle helmets, either. Were we tougher?
In conclusion, Bees stung me ten times during a bee hive visit last year. The swelling disappeared in 48 hours. To choose between bees and the Man-O-Wars, I stay out of the water and deal with angry bees.

After I read this article this morning....Mark Leavy wrote: ↑Wed Sep 02, 2020 11:19 pmNot sure if I'm answering your question Kbg, but I've been living on investments for about 7 years. I still have some ownership/board member duties in a few companies. Up until this year, I've just been hauling a 30 liter rucksack on the plane/train/ferry/rental car with me and staying in hotels and airBnBs all over the world. This year, after the ruckus, I bought a used car out of LA in May and have been driving around the USA trying to build a better mental map of what all of the nooks and crannies of this great country are really like. Where I go is decided by a mix of weather, business needs, opportunities, whimsy, girlfriend agenda and family crises.

Afghanistan is an amazing country, well except for the south part of it. First time I ever stepped foot there was getting off the jet in Bagram in late Feb/early March and my first thought was...Woah, this place feels like home.Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Thu Sep 03, 2020 3:45 pm I thought the landscape of northern NM looked pretty damn close to Afghanistan. Adobe houses look eerily like qalats as well.

Taxes in Retirement: How All 50 States Tax Retirees
We rated every state, plus Washington, D.C. on how retirees are taxed. We considered taxes on Social Security and other retirement income, as well as tax exemptions for older residents, as well as the state's overall income, property and sales taxes.
