Diminished Capacity?

Just finished reading this article:

This is the section that caught my eye:

"8. Diminished capacity. Cognition declines along with the rest of the body. We reach our peak ability to work with numbers at age 53 on average, and after that we begin to lose ground. At a certain point we put ourselves at risk for making mistakes, falling victim to fraud or identity theft, using bad judgment or poor impulse control. Keeping track of your ability is critical to your health and safety. A good assessment considers your behavior, cognitive ability and financial literacy with objective scoring."

I am nearly a full generation past the age of 53. And, for over 45 years numbers have been how I make my living. Yet, I've noticed zero decline in terms of my working with numbers. And, over the last few years I've been amazed at how it's been the opposite.

In the type of work I do, I do a ton of repetitive work, oftentimes doing the same work for years on end.

Yet instead of it taking me longer to do this work due to "diminished capacity" I have been shocked to have so flashes of insights as to how to get this work done in a more efficient, easier manner. Things have become much clearer as to how to get them done even though as I've stated I'd been doing some of them for many years prior.

We do have a fairly advanced age group here. What have been your experiences with "diminished capacity"?

Now, on the other hand, for me the "name" thing started in my early 50s and that has only increased year by year. But that's not really been any kind of major impediment or an area of concern for me.

It's probably use it or lose it.

I'm in my 60s and I definitely see some diminution of my math ability.

Doesn't help when trying to help the young one with implicit differentiation....
