Wow. I hope Trump puts this all over his campaign ads, because most people probably don't know anything about it - and would be outraged once they learn about it. None of the mainstream news outlets have picked up this story. This is the closest I could find:

I somehow doubt it will be enough to tip New York red though.

Thousands of families are now fleeing New York City, but the question must be asked: Who elected Bill De Blasio as mayor?
But it’s RAAAAACIST to have safe streets, and the voters listened to promises of “progressive” Democrats like De Blasio, and so they have no one to blame but themselves for the ruin of their cities.
New York: ‘I Don’t Want to Leave, But I Don’t Feel Like I Have a Choice Now’
I just hope they don't bring their leftist politics with them so they turn the place they run to into the place they ran from.
Unfortunately that seems all too common; they really aren't very intelligent, are they?

Looks like Cuomo stepped in to reverse the cancellation. The Tribute in Light will be held after all:

I guess that was too insane even for him.
But that doesn't cancel out the fact that they did try to cancel it.

Depends on why, exactly, people are fleeing NYC. Most of those leaving are families who are fed up with a prolonged, no-end-in-sight lockdown in a small apartment with no outdoor access, and juggling remote work with the kids being at home because schools are closed. Others are leaving because with work now remote, many are figuring that without NYC's cultural benefits, it no longer makes sense to pay high taxes and high housing costs. If the city gets back to some semblance of normal within the next couple of years, many of those people might come back. There's a reason why they didn't live in the suburbs in the first place.

I know many such people and doubt very much that there is a noticeable correlation between the decision to move and wanting to switch party allegiances.
