Believe it or not, she saved your life.

If you had stood a distance of 5’11” or less from her, you surely would have perished.
I DO get the humor! I guess I could have also said, "Could I push this chair in temporarily a foot while you temporarily stand back two feet so I can see what is available to choose from?" But she seemed like the rigid type person who would not accept such a request.

From what I can gather, the majority of them (or at least the ones on Facebook) are female. They are of the opinion that statistics and percentages do not matter and you will realize that when it is YOUR family member that is suffering and dying. Plus they believe the statistics also don't matter because even some people who have have gotten it and not died will have lifelong complications from it. You should not want any child to have to see their parents dying or suffering the rest of their lives for something like this. So as a compassionate society we should try to protect as many people as we possibly can at all costs. If you prioritize anything over lives then you are heartless. For them, any side effects you might mention such as lost jobs, bankrupt businesses, children isolated in their formative years etc. all pale in comparison to the spectre of someone suffering and dying.
Right. That's why MBTI F's, especially SF's, should not be in charge of anything other than their immediate families.
MBTI? Translate please?

FYI there are plenty of people out there with Y chromosomes who are just as militantly anti-risk when it comes to COVID. Andrew Cuomo, for starters.
Yes, it's the Myers-Briggs Personality Type. Here's an abbreviated test that will give you a pretty good idea of what you are:

I am going to guess: Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.

Vinny
Yes, and his "F" means "Feeling" (as opposed to Thinking) in Myers-Briggs, not female. SF means "Sensing" (as opposed to iNtuition) "Feeling".
I would have thought that he would, therefore, have stated "especially NF's" since they ARE the romantics of the world. S's mean taking in information via real means rather than "just knowing" via intuition.

But there may be a bias here toward "N's" since most engineers are "N's" rather than "S's' but are also generally "T's" rather than "F's".

VInny
S's, especially SF's, don't think in categories or abstractions. They need to see and feel things for them to be real to them, and feelings are more real than facts.

That's why discussing abstract ideas or statistics with them isn't going to get you very far.

Wore one today for the first time in 8 days.

Hated wearing it as soon as I put it on. So much heat on my face. Wore it for a total of an hour today as I insisted the person who was with me in my car also wear one.

VInny
While I feel your pain, my sympathy level is near zero. I will go into work today at noon, and if it's busy I will have an even more uncomfortable KN95 mask on for 6 straight hours.
My sympathies, MangoMan. My sister, as an ER doc, also had to wear N95s through her entire shift during the height of the COVID spike in her state. Her shifts are 12 hours (!!).

However - wearing a mask indoors in air conditioning when you're doing nothing more strenuous than standing or walking down the hall, is a whole different ball game than wearing it outdoors in 90 degree heat and 90% humidity, and while walking long distances or doing something mildly strenuous. That's what I was griping about in my previous posts. The mask gets soaked in sweat very quickly and I get out of breath from rebreathing CO2 in expired air. All for a very questionable benefit (for OUTDOOR wear). And, wasn't there a study showing that masks become much less effective once they're wet?

Wearing a thin, very breathable mask strictly for show or preferably going without while outdoors and switching to a regular surgical mask indoors is my solution. I'd also wear the surgical mask if I were jammed into a crowd outdoors, remaining in close proximity to other people for longer than the few seconds it takes to walk past them. That would be out of respect for others who might be uncomfortable otherwise. Except I don't really get into those situations.

We went to friends this Saturday night, 6 adults, all sitting in a big circle, social distant.

Next door was a high school graduation / going to college party. Easily 50+ kids and parents, no distancing no masks.

I looked over with sadness that we were complaining about a party like this happening, but I am curious what people here think about such a gathering, a week before these kids go out to different states at different schools.

Thanks. Better understand. As an ISTJ that ended up at a math / science / engineering college, I quickly realized that totally lacking "N" I was not suited for engineering. That basically left math as my only choice of major. However, once my math courses moved into all abstractions and categories (what happened to all my beloved numbers??!!!) I was sunk there also. After dropping out of that college, four years later found my way back to school in accounting, which, of course, is a perfect vocation for an ISTJ.

I really wish someone would carefully study the impact of the mass BLM protests on coronavirus cases in different regions. It is directly relevant to Cortopassi's question.

Cortopassi you didn't say if it was indoor or outdoor. If indoor, I am guessing yes, that could spread coronavirus among the group if one of them is positive and shedding virus.

If outdoor, then you have basically the same conditions as the mass protests (many people wore masks but a lot didn't especially those shouting into megaphones and rioting). Initially I based my opinion on a close watch on the NYC numbers, which did not respond in the slightest to the BLM protests. But, that could be because NYC already has herd immunity. The subsequent rise of coronavirus cases most markedly among the demographic participating in the protests (i.e. young healthy people) made me think that the BLM protests did indeed have an effect, but only in regions without herd immunity.

Sorry I think I posted this in the wrong thread!!!!!

I'm ready to be done with the whole mess. More than ready.

My gut feel is that holding out hope for a vaccine 'deus ex machina' is a sucker's bet. A bedtime story to placate children and fools.

If no vaccine, then no amount of mask wearing and social distancing will change the final outcome. Let's get on it with it and deal with the repercussions as they happen.

I will grant, though, that mask wearing could slow down the speed of the spread enough that the virus could evolve to something less serious. Unfortunately, there is not predictability to that.

At this point, I'd vote for just letting her rip. For the same reason as when we learned that putting out small forest fires is a bad idea. By saving a few trees, you make the entire forest more fragile. Animal species work the same way. We could be sacrificing the robustness of the human race by our extraordinary measures to prop up the weakest amongst us.

Since most of the people at that party weren’t elderly, their risk of complications from Covid-19 is minuscule. Their party helped speed up herd immunity, thus allowing society to recover and move forward more quickly, so they should actually be commended.

Each day, prior to my friend going into work, he has to first fill out this online form:
Capture.JPG
Capture.JPG (104.04 KiB) Viewed 6191 times
Then five minutes later he is emailed a logo under his name.

To get in he has to show the security guard that logo on his phone.

Anyone else have to undergo something like this to enter your workplace?

On Sunday I went to mine to get some things out of my office. I just opened the door and walked in.

Did a fair amount of hand sanitizing while I was there.

I realize that I'm probably the only one that cares, but after being moved from May to August, then reduced to 50% fans, then 25% fans, it was announced today that the Indy 500 will be run with NO fans at all. Major bummer.

Rumor has it that they’re next going to announce the removal of all cars from the Indy 500 as well. Won’t be quite the same.
