Yeah I ordered a different book last week, even being a "Prime" book it was still a 5 day shipping quote. I think it's still related to lockdown stuff. Amazon has been prioritizing things they see as a potential need and de-prioritizing things like books that are not a necessity.

On the other hand, if you are buying used books, they seem to not be affected.pmward wrote: ↑Mon Jun 29, 2020 11:27 am Yeah I ordered a different book last week, even being a "Prime" book it was still a 5 day shipping quote. It was enjoyable reading
Re: New Permanent Portfolio book: "Investing Equanimity"
Do you share at all that it was "inspirational" personal finance reading?

Re: New Permanent Portfolio book: "Investing Equanimity"
I guess it could be , but after more than 30 years of reading pp books and articles it’s like being married for decades ....there is little to get excited about in the bedroom. Lol
Re: New Permanent Portfolio book: "Investing Equanimity"
I have over 500 personal finance books. Have not come close to reading them all. And have been reading them for over 30 years. But this one was distinctly different in that aspect I cited above.mathjak107 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 3:23 pmI guess it could be , but after more than 30 years of reading pp books and articles it’s like being married for decades ....there is little to get excited about in the bedroom. Re: New Permanent Portfolio book: "Investing Equanimity"
I can’t say I get excited or impressed with financial books anymore ....especially pp books which tend to just reiterate what has been said for decades , just changing the wording .
But I did like the book and do recommend it if you have an interest in the pp

Wow, yes. Can't wait to read this book.Xan wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 11:51 am Way cool, and congratulations!
I'd like to point out to everyone that blue_ruin's other book looks pretty good as well:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RV5QM1Y/
BTW blue_ruin your Amazon author page still shows only the one book, so you might want to update it:
https://www.amazon.com/Eric-Deslauriers/e/B07RWNP6HR/
And if you're interested, my Amazon author page is here...

No books on investing yet, though! ;-)

Re: New Permanent Portfolio book: "Investing Equanimity"
my favorite section was the one on simplicity ..... i liked some of your explanations of simplicityblue_ruin17 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 19, 2020 10:34 pm "Investing Equanimity: The Logic & Wisdom of the Permanent Portfolio"
I decided to write this book because the only way to truly satisfy my fascination with the concept of the Permanent Portfolio was to just write a book about it and "get it out of my system".
I wrote it in such a manner that it is accessible to someone who has stumbled upon this mysterious "Permanent Portfolio" machine for the first time; we start from absolute first principles and build from there. However, I also wrote with Permanent Portfolio veterans in mind (in other words, Gyroscopic folks), because I think there is a lot to be explored regarding the deeper philosophy of this idea, even if you are extremely knowledge concerning the mechanics of the strategy.
Take a look at the Table of Contents on Amazon and check out if it interests you. If it does, and you read it, please leave a review on Amazon, it would be greatly appreciated.

This is a great book! If you're having doubts about now, this book might remind you of why the PP makes so much sense in this insane world we inhabit.
Re: New Permanent Portfolio book: "Investing Equanimity"
This was the book that came out last year which someone here thought was recent.

Thanks again for writing it!xmj wrote:Tue Sep 19, 2023 12:36 am One of the best books on the Permanent Portfolio that I've come across so far was
Investing Equanimity: The Logic & Wisdom of The Permanent Portfolio by Eric Deslauriers. Published in 2020, it was written by one of the members of the OG PP forum GyroscopicInvesting (see the launch thread here).
It explains the theoretical basis of the four components and how they interplay during the various times of economic expansion/decline, then explains the process and mechanism of a four-fund rebalanced polio (including a chapter about PP relevance for FIRE), and concludes with 17 parables.
If you're looking for a friendly exploration of the permanent portfolio and its benefits, look no further.
