A message from President Daniels regarding fall semester
https://www.purdue.edu/president/messag ... essage.php
"But in other respects, a place like Purdue may be in better position to resume its mission. Our campus community, a “city” of 50,000+ people, is highly unusual in its makeup. At least 80% of our population is made up of young people, say, 35 and under. All data to date tell us that the COVID-19 virus, while it transmits rapidly in this age group, poses close to zero lethal threat to them.
Meanwhile, the virus has proven to be a serious danger to other, older demographic groups, especially those with underlying health problems. The roughly 20% of our Purdue community who are over 35 years old contains a significant number of people with diabetes, asthma, hypertension, and other ailments which together comprise a very high percentage of the fatal and most severe COVID-19 cases.
We will consider new policies and practices that keep these groups separate, or minimize contact between them. Literally, our students pose a far greater danger to others than the virus poses to them. We all have a role, and a responsibility, in ensuring the health of the Purdue community.
The approaches below are preliminary, meant to be illustrative of the objectives we will pursue. View them as examples, likely to be replaced by better ideas as we identify and validate them.
They could include spreading out classes across days and times to reduce their size, more use of online instruction for on-campus students, virtualizing laboratory work, and similar steps."

Yesterday 4/21, Jim Cramer on Mad Money discussed the charting/technical analysis work of Larry Williams. Cramer said Larry is one of the best. Williams applied his charting to the virus and found down channels in each nation, from South Korea to Iran. He determined down channels in every nation examined. Mr. Williams, apparently, is suggesting USA is in a down channel with a conclusion of this first wave on 5/11 or 5/12.

When I worked with a business owner earlier this month to put in an application for the loan just before we submitted it she directly realized the conflict between the loan (favoring the owner) and unemployment (favoring the employees). I told her to submit and we'd just take it one step at a time later. First seeing if the loan was approved. And, then if it is making a final decisions of which way to go.MangoMan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2020 8:08 amYou had to figure the stupidity of paying people that extra $600 was going to blow up.yankees60 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 9:31 pm This is exactly what I pointed out.

Great read. Yeah, that sucks. I feel for her. She needs the loan to avoid bankruptcy, right? I also don't blame her workers for preferring to get paid more to not work.yankees60 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 9:31 pm This is exactly what I pointed out.

Perhaps another option is for her to collect unemployment herself and defer paying the rent/mortgage for her salons (given other government intervention currently in place which seems to be allowing people to not pay rent/mortgages and still avoid eviction)?

That is hilarious. Found the text at the WSJ.

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
I didn't read it until after I posted it. I think the idea was clever, and it was a mostly-funny read, but I suspect the author has never been a cat owner based on this quote (written by the cat):
Cats don't like "pats on the head."We (sort of) love you, and appreciate the occasional pats on the head...

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
There's an even better indicator, because counts of coronavirus deaths are subject to a ridiculous # of issues - overcounting based on positive testing, undercounting based on limited testing etc: examining total mortality and comparing to previous year's #s:Cortopassi wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2020 1:09 pm Assuming this chart is accurate (from Mish's blog), this puts it into more perspective for me.

In NYC, mortality during the peak caseload in late March/early April was as much as 2.5x normal. It remains to be seen whether these deaths were simply advanced by a few months, but it seems more likely that the people dying of COVID could have lived for at least a few years with a decent quality of life, based on #s for life expectancy from a given age.
p.s. funny article but cats didn't get a fair shake! My cats are THRILLED that I'm home all day. I get requests about every 15 minutes that roughly translate as "Pet me now!" or "Let me into this cabinet with all the breakable glass!" or "Give me a treat!" or "Play with me!" except of course when they're sleeping in which case I am not to bother them. Nice life.

Forgot about that. However, even at my advanced age, I was still able to read it all without any aid. Near sighted still works.

Re: Coronavirus General Discussion
One correction: I did read that there are more auto-ped deaths. With fewer cars on the road, some drivers are blowing stop signs, driving too fast and, whoops, killing pedestrians.
