Hong Kong and geo-diversification

Post by Ad Orientem »

I've made the point in various discussions over the years that HK is NOT suitable for geographic diversification of assets because irregardless of paper guarantees, it was a part of the PRC which is an authoritarian police state where the term "rule of law" is a joke. Whatever liberties it enjoyed, it did so entirely at the sufferance of Beijing. It now appears that those guarantees are no longer being honored even on paper.

Right. The flip side is that what's happening in Hong Kong is a great reminder that one should always geographically diversify their assets. This is the case regardless of how safe one's home country may seem at the time of initial investment.
