Self sustaining community insurance

Post by doodle »

I'm curious whether anyone has given any thought into forming a doomsday off grid intentional community as an insurance policy against future pandemics or societal breakdowns. I'm envisioning something with a corporate structure where people buy shares in a community that is self sustaining and able to weather calamities that might disrupt ordinary life. In the event that nothing happens, this insurance policy could be enjoyed as a vacation home getaway but if shit hits the fan could provide a lot of value. The community would have some permanent caretakers or custodians who maintain the property, keep land productive, can food etc.. while shareholders can choose to take an active role or not. This isn't a hippy commune really, it is a marketable insurance policy....a backstop for potential events that even gold can't protect against.

This thread is going to lead to a real life Fight Club isn't it?

Just kidding. This has been discussed in previous threads. I'm 100% all for a SHTF backup plan that allows for likeminded people to ban together before things turn into The Walking Dead.

I can't imagine a better crew than the people on this forum.

I think the most viable idea is to simply find out who, if any person, on this forum lives on a big plot of farmland. We choose that person's place as our "base" to meet at, and we go from there.
