Re: Brace for a gigantic increase in cases

I had a dentist who when he found out that I was an investor, wanted to have a competition to see who could earn more money in a month from stockpicking. “Oh boy are you barking up the wrong tree,” I said. But it wasn’t because he was a dentist. He was a silly character all around. Also not a great dentist. He pinched my lip very badly with some device and didn’t even notice until I, with great difficulty, told him so.

He’s 75.

No, I still think my dad and the doctor who wrote that editorial are being flippant about this. It’s partly arrogance (not uncommon among doctors) and partly “I wanna go do my fun things. Me, me, me!”

They’ll gradually wake up to reality over the next week or two as the pandemic grows and people they know start getting hospitalized.
I had once (maybe more) read that doctors are the worst investors because they always think in ALL areas of life they know more than everyone else. Maybe a stereotype?

I've heard that if you have an "investment" that is so bad you can't sell it to a doctor, sell it to a dentist.
My dentist, who is a gem as a dentist, is a prime example of this.

Besides myself, there are at least 2 other dentists that are members here (they don't post much if at all), so apparently we're not all bad investors!

I think if anything, MDs and DDSs are too busy dealing with other things and keeping up to date that they don't have time to learn how to invest. They also have a disproportionate rate of divorce. I think for the same reason: not around enough so spouse does't get enough attention?
Or maybe the payoff from divorce is higher.
