I'm not on a tirade today. This was in my twitter feed recently, though it's from July.
I was actually surprised about this one. Maybe I'm naive.

Day in the Life of a Typical Japanese Office Worker in Tokyo
This guy has a lot of cool videos about Japan, the "day in the life" ones are the best.

Yeah, that was a good clip. Some of that is atypical. Emi is adorable.

A recording of Charles Lightoller, second officer of the Titanic, describing his experiences during and after the sinking. There are a (very) few key people on the Titanic whose actions saved hundreds of lives, and he was one of them.

Also, I highly recommend reading his life story. It is amazing, deserving of a biography IMHO. Among other things, he took his personal boat to Dunkirk in 1940, at age 66, to rescue British soldiers. This is portrayed in the "Dunkirk" movie although the character is given a different name.

Lightoller's autobiography. He was indeed a fascinating man who had an incredible life.

Re: YouTube Junkie
Interestingly, the author explains one of the major mysteries of the Titanic: the reason why the lifeboats were sent off half-empty. It was because they would be too difficult to lower safely all the way to the water when full, so they planned to finish loading them from a gangway lower down. The problem is that no one told Lightoller and the others about how fast the ship was sinking, and they only realized this when the gangways ended up underwater. By which time, the distance to the water probably wasn't such an issue. He also indicates that they ran out of time filling lifeboats and weren't able to launch the last two properly, so that even if the Titanic did have enough boats it's not clear they would have been able to use them.Ad Orientem wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 3:17 pmWiseOne wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2020 11:11 am A recording of Charles Lightoller, second officer of the Titanic, describing his experiences during and after the sinking. Re: YouTube Junkie
No, no no. Chicago's '25 or 6 to 4' is was out when Green Day were in diapers. The ad features the Elements' remix of that, not Green Day.Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 8:53 amI think it's fun that they Vanilla Iced the riff from Green Day, a band not exactly known for being very Team Americadualstow wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2020 12:09 pm I feel humbled by the story above, especially because i just came here to say I like the Chicago remix/reworking in this GoArmy ad. Tim is good (but should have been wearing a plain white t-shirt) but the Aussie is very quick on the uptake and outgo, quite talented. I'd have to give the IQ medal to the Aussie.Kriegsspiel wrote: ↑Mon Feb 17, 2020 11:42 amSpeaking of HIGH IQ, this is brilliant.
