Re: Hurricane Harvey

Post by Mountaineer »

Just had this email from a friend who lives in League City, TX (southeast of Houston about half way to Galveston):

Hi folks thanks for your thoughts and wishes – so far so good – no high winds unless the storm re-emerges next week and comes up the coast. Have got a couple spates of heavy rain so far but hours in between of no rain or only very light rain. I think the threat, as far as our area goes, is over-hyped. If we were 35 miles down the road on Galveston Island it might be a different story. Nobody in our neighborhood is evacuating as far as I know.

Most weather events are severely over-hyped. A Category 4 this may be, but I hope that's true in this case, and that the decision not to evacuate is a better indication of the storm's expected impact.

Everyone in the storm's path, be well. Fill the bathtub with water if you haven't stocked up on potable water already!

Here in Austin it looks like we're expecting a ton of rain but (hopefully) nothing more severe than that. Just hoping to stay dry!

Tyler we need to get together sometime! Houston is pretty quiet right now, light rain. Not sure what happens Wednesday if the eye passes over us.

Not a surfer, no. The last 12 hours have seen massive rain, and a tornado 1 mile away. The rain will continue for the next 2 or 3 days at least. I hope the creeks don't top their banks.

I see there is another red X off the Carolina coast already. We had a yellow one smack over us all weekend but fortunately it didn't materialize.

Hope this isn't gearing up to be a repeat of 2004. We've been lucky ever since that monster year but I hope our luck isn't running out.

Supposedly a levee has been breached just south of Houston at Columbia Lakes.

Damn, this monster sure is taking its time in a holding pattern before making landfall. We've been having sporadic downpours all day even over here on the west coast of Florida.
