S&P Downgrade

Post by AdamA »

It seems like now has to be a good time to buy some long term treasuries, or maybe even zeroes.

Is anyone going to do this?

I already have enough Long Term Treasuries as it is!  ;D

But, the funny thing is that some analysts think that we may even see a rally in Treasuries as investors flee from "riskier" assets. Oddly enough, when US Treasuries get downgraded, that makes riskier investments appear even more risky, since many investments are backed by US Treasuries to lower their risk. So, if Treasuries are perceived to be more risky, that makes almost everything else appear to be even more risky. Hence, that might cause investors to sell their riskier assets and move into Treasury Bonds (where else would they go?).

It's going to be a wild week.

Also... FrAAAnce is at risk of becoming FrAAnce, while Germany just said that Italy is too big bail out.

If you ask me, US Treasuries are looking mighty fine right about now.

I bought a little EDV Friday, and then had a little freak-out Friday evening.

Hope you're right, Clive. Unfortunately, it looks like Italy might grab some of the headlines on Monday (and not in a good way):

...could be good for Treasuries though.
