Ambient Music
Any recommendations??? So far, I'm thrilled with A Journey Into Ambient Groove, Ancient Alien and most of the second disc of Spirit of Wandjina: 3rd Barramundi Sampler, but its rare that an entire album is completely interesting other than just the one song that originally peaked my interest.

I would either (stream) listen to Stars End on WXPN Saturdays at 4am(?) or Google their playlists. They always play amazing stuff.

You'll find the musical selections from this article of mine very relaxing/healing:
http://gyroscopicinvesting.com/forum/ot ... /#msg37571
not on that list but arvo part has some wonderful stuff (minimalist) Alina by Part is great. Not sure what defines ambient music but some in my article may quality.

I like listening to soundtracks from video games and movies. There are no words to distract you, and the variety of moods, tones, and themes is immense.

I second the video games soundtracks, especially anything from the 8-bit era. They had some really creative music then especially when you consider the hardware limitations they had back then. Mega Man, Contra, the list goes on.Pointedstick wrote: I like listening to soundtracks from video games and movies. Re: Ambient Music
Got any album recommendations? I was a fan of SID music on the C64 and the trackers on the Amiga, but nowadays I need ambient or at least something in the lower half of a chromatic frequency spectrum.Pointedstick wrote: I like listening to soundtracks from video games and movies. So far I've not been impressed with the CD's I've bought since my last posting. There's usually a song or two or even a couple but the rest are just dull and not upbeat. Does anyone know of a website where you can upload a song and have it analyzed so similar songs can be recommended?
Here's an example of a song I like but the rest of the album doesn't do it for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9AiyoKUJlU

Juicy! I didn't know they made soundtracks from games. I'll strip from YouTube what I can't find the CD's for.

It's funny how sometimes the music sticks with you. My wife is always singing bits of Plants vs Zombies (not by my cousin. By award-winning composer Laura Shigihara).

Re: Ambient Music
If you are old enough, try the Beau Hunks, a Dutch ensemble.
The Beau Hunks Orchestra was originally a quintet organized to perform soundtrack themes from Hal Roach film studio comedies of the 1930s, including those of Laurel & Hardy, Our Gang, The Little Rascals, Charley Chase, Thelma Todd and the Taxi Boys. The group (whose name derives from a 1931 Laurel and Hardy film Beau Hunks) gave what was intended to be their only public performance on 18 January 1992, at the Oliver Hardy Centennial in Amsterdam. However, based on the success of the performance, the band decided to expand to a full orchestra and record their repertoire for commercial CD release.
If you ever watched any of these old films the Beau Hunks nail the music.
