All a load of crap. Need to just change things to a simple election, majority wins. No electoral college or these primary shenanigans.

Remember that political parties are private organizations, and they can run their businesses however they want.
These primary elections are not governmental functions. They're more like beauty pageants with all sorts of safeguards to make sure that the "right" kind of contestants win.
That's part of what I'm sure is so outrageous to many Republicans about Trump's candidacy. It's not just that he has few ties to the Republican establishment, but it's not entirely clear that he is even a Republican.

I understand the purpose of the electoral college, with mixed feelings, but totally agree that primaries should be simple pluralityCortopassi wrote: All a load of crap. Need to just change things to a simple election, majority wins. No electoral college or these primary shenanigans.

I'll bet you won't find many people that actually realize this - and with this super delegate thing that Hillary has going maybe people will start to understand that they are only quasi-democratic at best.MediumTex wrote: Remember that political parties are private organizations, and they can run their businesses however they want.
I've thought for a long time that nothing much is going to change with the two parties until a viable third party comes along. I thought that might have actually been happening with Ross Perot and if he hadn't done the crazy thing he did dropping out and then returning I think he might actually have won. At least he did cost Bush the election.
Bernie or Bloomberg could very well do the same thing for Hillary if they go third party but I believe things are rigged to prevent that too.

I think that Bloomberg vastly overestimates his potential nationwide appeal.Fred wrote: Bernie or Bloomberg could very well do the same thing for Hillary if they go third party but I believe things are rigged to prevent that too.
An egonmaniac with bird lips who can't decide which party he wants to belong to, but thinks he can tell the rest of the world the size cups they should drink out of is going to have a tough time in many parts of the country.

Big Gulp Bloomberg has no chance of winning. He is deluding himself.
