David Bowie

Post by MediumTex »

I was sad to hear of the passing of David Bowie.

For anyone who hasn't had the pleasure and would like to spend some time with Bowie's work, please consider listening to "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars."

IMHO, this album is not only Bowie's best, but I actually think it is one of the greatest rock albums ever recorded.  I have been listening to it now for about 30 years and I never get tired of it.  It sounds amazingly fresh and it is that rare music that really does seem timeless.

I've been listening to it today, and it's just flawless.

No argument from me about Ziggy Stardust.

If you thought "Lazarus" was weird, check out the video for "Blackstar":

I didn't realize Bowie was so steeped in the occult. Occult symbols and imagery everywhere.

Me neither. Huge fan. Been listening to him since I was a kid, decades ago. Saw him in concert, bought his special clear vinyl reissue LPs.
It was only the other week that I was reading about his interest in Aleister Crowley and  a particularly drug-fueled year in which Bowie lived in paranoid fear of fellow occultist Jimmy Page.

side note: Jimmy Page wrote the guitar part for the song Supermen.

I loved the skeleton in the space suit with the jeweled skull.

Major Tom about a thousand years from now.
