Hillary Is A Liar
Trump calls Hillary a liar after she says that ISIS is showing recruitment videos of him. He's bashing her hard. I just love it! Can she stand up to it? He even made fun of her going to the bathroom during the debate. He's starting to do to her what he's done to Jeb. Will it work?

Yes. Say hello to president Trump.

She is not going to take this kind of treatment very well. Nobody has spoken to or about her in this manner before....especially Bill. I can see her playing the poor woman victimhood card. Will people fall for it?

Re: Hillary Is A Liar
No, because that's emphasizing weakness. Nobody wants that in a president, especially not when contrasted with someone whose entire brand is strength. Well, some people want that, but not a lot of them. If Trump goes for strength and Hillary counters by emphasizing weakness, she's toast.
Strategically, the whole point of emphasizing weakness by complaining about your victimization is to appeal to a higher authority to validate your claim and punish your oppressor. For obvious reasons, this cannot work when you are trying to be that higher authority. Who's gonna tell you you're right and punish that nasty meanie Trump? Nobody, because there is no figure or entity more powerful than the president of the United States. It would be a completely discordant tone to take and she would suffer for it.

No fan of Hillary. But one should look at these comparisons. I'm not sure how much weight I give Politifact on being objective, however.

Re: Hillary Is A Liar
Let's face it, moda. The facts are irrelevant. This is a presidential race, not a scientific paper. It's all about emotion, marketing, likability, celebrity gossip, you name it. The facts simply don't come into play for most people, and although some would certainly protest that this applies to them, it still does--they simply don't want to admit it because it contradicts their self image. But their behavior gives them away.

Re: Hillary Is A Liar
It is simply the nature of politics, magnified a thousandfold by representative government with near-unlimited franchise. So it is, so it always has been, so it always shall be. One can wish it were not so, or one can recognize it and act accordingly. Trump is doing the latter and it's why he'll be the next president. He's the only one who really deeply understands the rules of the game he's playing.jafs wrote: That's why we're in trouble.

Trump has built a huge business, tall buildings and even an ice skating rink in Central Park. What has Hillary done?
Re: Hillary Is A Liar
Well, if people cared about the facts, then they'd be relevant.
And, then the representative government would be a different sort of entity.
It may always have been like this to some degree, but I think it's gotten worse over time, and now people maintain ideological views even when presented with contradictory evidence (they even strengthen them).

Re: Hillary Is A Liar
Everybody cares about what they believe are the facts.
Almost nobody is accurate in their assessment of the facts because in politics there is literally no benefit to being informed and having accurate perceptions of political policies, or any penalty for being ignorant and misinformed. The number of people who are truly well-informed and whose opinions on what should be done are based in accurate perceptions of political realities are so rare as to be irrelevant to electoral politics, not even a rounding error. Nearly everybody is drastically more misinformed and being affected by more ideological blinders than they believe, including me and you.
Again, you can decry it or you can acknowledge it. It's simply the nature of the system.

Trump also said yesterday that Hillary got schlonged by Obama in 2008. Should I change the title of this thread to
"Hillary Got Schlonged"?
Can we all agree that that's just going too far?

What in the heck is "Schlonged"? Never heard that word before. From Urban Dictionary:Fred wrote: What in the heck is "Schlonged"? Never heard that word before. Must be a New York thing.
Schlong: A penis which is a fairly good length. As opposed to a schlort, or a schledium.
If you want to hear the correct pronunciation, go here:
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Schlong
I lived in NYC for two decades and never heard anyone verb the word schlong.
Re: Hillary Is A Liar
Yes it's a little used NY expression. Gotta love it because no matter how she answers she looks bad.

"Richarded" (polite for the vernacular or even the old term for a private investigator or a railroad detective).Fred wrote:What in the heck is "Schlonged"? Never heard that word before. Re: Hillary Is A Liar
On Here And Now on Monday, they were interviewing a woman (I didn't catch who it was, tuned in late), and asked her if Clinton would sustain any political damage for lying about ISIS recruiting based on what Trump said. Her response was
"I don't think so. And Jeremy, I know I'm in the tank as a Democratic. But here's what I'd say, very honestly; is it REALLY that hard for us to imagine that that could become the case? Trump's said some really inflammatory things..."
And I was just flabbergasted at this shitty level of journalism. Facts are irrelevent, we're all imagineers now! Afterwards, I found out she was some kind of Democratic strategist, which clarified the sitch. Facts don't matter in political campaigns.
