Texas Flood
I am sure we wish Xan well. I hope he missed the rising water.
Re: Texas Flood
Thanks, Bedraggled! It was really weird to see downtown flooded. We were able to avoid any danger. I understand there's a family or two still completely missing, though... :-(

Re: Texas Flood
The Buffalo Bayou came out of its banks and flooded the below-grade parking lot of our building on Woodway Drive. But it's going down now.

Re: Texas Flood
I was looking at the news this morning and thinking about our Medium Tex as well, and others still.

I forgot about Medium Tex. Did the water miss his location? That's Dallas, right? Was Dallas passed by this time?
Ocho,
I either forgot or didn't know you are in Texas. Glad to hear the water missed.

Stay safe, Ochotona!
Anyway, not Houston.
I want to say part of the Dallas-FtWorth metroplex but I don't remember how I arrived at that, or if it's accurate.bedraggled wrote: I forgot about Medium Tex. Did the water miss his location? That's Dallas, right?

I'm in Austin. (Maybe we need a Texas meetup!)
My house got over 4 inches of rain yesterday alone. Luckily we're fine. I also heard the lake rose 3.5 feet in only 8 hours yesterday. The rain is generally welcome, but sheesh. Pretty crazy.

Tyler,
Did not know you were in Texas. All the best.
Did the rain miss Pointed Stick in NM?
BTW, those of us who read the New Zealand threads recently know better than to use " sorry" inappropriately. So, "all the best," Texas.

Oh we got lots of nice rain too. about 5x the monthly average, but with no flooding. Everyone's thrilled. My potatoes and onions are growing nicely.

PS,
Glad to hear your veggies did well.
It's hard to grow that stuff living in NYC 200 feet up in the sky.

Being that you're in a desert like me (without a drought?), are you doing anything nifty beyond regular in the ground gardening? Raised beds? Container? Self-irrigating? Permaculture? Hugelkultur? Polyculture?Pointedstick wrote: Oh we got lots of nice rain too. about 5x the monthly average, but with no flooding. Everyone's thrilled. My potatoes and onions are growing nicely.

So far just graywater from the washing machine and swamp cooler bleed line. Raised beds are in the cards, and I'd like to try Hugelkultur at some point too.

PS, MG,
Which seed companies do you order from. (Pardon the preposition at the end and that I ask this question while living 200 feet up. I used to garden 1700 sq ft at my parents' place).

I put flotation devices and a hammer in the car cockpit today.
