I'm staying with the PP...

Post by Professor Disorientation »

I started my PP on December 16, 2014, and although it hasn't moved much, I'm staying with the PP. Some are clamoring about adding to their stock positions because stocks are on a win streak. Go ahead-load up. Not me. Things can change very quickly without warning. And today's supposed genius is tomorrow's outright fool. Remember the PP is for Capital Preservation. It's the portfolio to have when all hell breaks loose and all hell will break loose again. If I want to play around, I'll do it with my variable portfolios. I'll also increase my wealth by becoming more skilled at what I do for a living. That is what Harry suggested.

The four asset groups in the PP work together. That's the simple genius of Harry. I will change Harry's allocation if anyone here can tell me where these four asset groups will be one year from now, five years from now and ten years from now. You can stick with the talking heads, but I'll share a foxhole with Harry any time when the financial system is coming apart.

Class dismissed.

The classic PP configuration is very safe.

I'm convinced.  I have been investing for a long time and when I came across the HBPP I was instantly hooked!  Thanks for all of your posts on the forum.  They've been tremendous.

One thing I can guarantee; if you invest in the PP for a long term, some other fairly mainstream allocation will beat it.  Now, if you can predict that one ahead of time....
Stay free, my friends.

I am down -.60% since 12/16/14. But I'm in for the long haul. You have to start somewhere. Bonds were high when I started my PP, and TLT is off -13.50% from 52-week high. Maybe I can take advantage of TLT's volatility. That is the key with the PP, taking advantage of assets when they are on sale and rebalancing into out-of-favor asset classes.
Most people avoid the PP because an asset class appears too high at the time of initial purchase or they are afraid an asset class will crater (like TLT). These four asset classes: cash, stocks, bonds and gold cover what is important to own.
Investors go from greed to fear and fear to greed and that will never change. The PP keeps my emotions at bay. Overcoming emotions in the market is the difference between being a winner and a loser.
