Survived the Nazis, Jailed by America

Post by dualstow »

Makes me want to be a neocon. Or at least helps me understand how they arose.
With the American forces overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of refugees under their control, underfed survivors lived for months in decrepit camps in Germany and Austria — a number of them on the same grounds as the concentration camps. Even after conditions improved, thousands of former prisoners remained inside and in limbo for as long as five years because the United States and most other nations refused to let them in.
Harrison and his ilk believe that the Displaced Person is a human being, which he is not, and this applies particularly to the Jews who are lower than animals,”? Patton wrote.

I'm not understanding what this has to do with being a Neocon?

Nor am I! But I am glad that I read that article. Seems that Patton maybe loved fighting the Germans because he saw them as 'worthy enemies.' But also worth remembering is just how overwhelmed the world was trying to rebuild after WWII. That process took ages in Japan, England, Germany, etc. Not that that excuses any of this terrible treatment of the Jews.

What I mean is, when a group of people is treated that poorly, it is not a surprise that they would become so hardened in the process of trying to take care of themselves. I don't think it was borne out of religion.

If they hadn't been so ill-treated, maybe the hardliners would not even exist.

Glad you read the article Barrett. I noticed Savage Continent is mentioned in the Comments section. That's been on my reading list for a while. All kinds of misery happened after the war was long over, and of course with all kinds of ethnicities and nationalities.

Ught.  I'm so glad that -ist era is over with.  "Hands up, don't shoot!" is nothing in comparison.
