Russia Or China
Being that the Chinese markets were up 50% in 2014 while the Ruskies were down about the same which is the better investment going into a new year? Would you be the contrarian or the momentum afficiando? China or Russia? Which is it?

China.
I think Putin's looking for another Cold War. It's all he has left to legitimize his sinking economy.

Re: Russia Or China
They say the sink in oil prices hurt Russia more than any sanctions, so it follows that a surge in prices could save Russia.
And, I keep reading articles about Germany turning eastward to Russia, away from its longtime allies.
Ugh, I woudn't invest in either country but I think I would go contrarian and not momentum in this case.

It is too early to buy Russia, even Mr. Putin said Russia economy will rebound in 2 years.
I do holding Chinese shares in my portfolio, 2014 was a nice year and I'm close to rebalance it.

Russia is a disaster on wheels. Fitch just downgraded their bonds to BBB with a negative outlook. See this related thread...

The other problem is foreign investor sentiment towards Russia is bullish. Bottoms do not happen when everyone is crowded to the bullish side.Ad Orientem wrote: Russia is a disaster on wheels. Fitch just downgraded their bonds to BBB with a negative outlook. See this related thread...

The same thing is happening in oil too right now, BTW.

Re: Russia Or China
Bad day for Shanghai. Down something like 7.7% in one fell swoop.

How would you invest in China or Russia? Is there an ETF specific to those countries? VWO is the only EM fund I've used and it splits across many emerging markets.
