Right now, my Permanent Portfolio Allocation looks like this:
18% SHY: iShares Barclays 1-3 Year Treasury Bond Fund ETF
30% TLT: iShares Barclays 20 Year Treasury Bond Fund ETF
17% IAU: iShares COMEX Gold Trust ETF
35% IJR: iShares S&P SmallCap 600 Index Fund ETF
According to the guidelines, I ought to re-balance. But I'm thinking this allocation is alright as it is.
Also, I'm using IJR: iShares S&P SmallCap 600 Index Fund ETF as a proxy for the stock portion. I'm not sure that's bad either.
30% TLT: iShares Barclays 20 Year Treasury Bond Fund ETF
Bonds have had such a run-up that every trading day I have to talk myself out of selling too much, since I am still close to 25% right now. (Long story). If I had a 30% share in long bonds, I would jump at the chance to prune them down to 25%.
Not to mention the fact that it's a new year and Craig just reminded us all to rebalance if we haven't done so for a year, or to at least take a look and consider rebalancing.
