What Stocks Are You Buying?

Post by Reub »

I'm curious as to which, if any, stocks anyone is buying these days. I bought some AAPL recently, just wanting to get in on the herd mentality. Even though the airlines have risen so much they will profit handsomely from this historic oil drop. I'm looking at LUV, ALK, HA, the last two as possible takeover targets as well as their massive benefit due to lower fuel costs. Royal Caribbean and Fedex are also doing great and benefit greatly. Taser has caught my attention. Under Armour as well.

I recently bought a tad more aerospace, but I have not been buying new individual stocks much at all this year.
Sold my AAPL at 98 and change, unfortunately.

I also dipped a toe in on Cyberark Security as a internet hacking play. It's done well in the short time that I've owned it.

I've been out of individual stocks for some time but have been watching a couple of ETF's: XLE and OIH with the recent drop in oil prices.

I'm long or watching a few under $10 stocks with good prospects due to the declining price oil or what not.  I'm also short the Euro, long Europe (hedged), long Biotech and still long India.  I stopped out of Russia, Fracking and Frontier during the downdraft.  And recently a biotech that issued a possible share dilution, but I had a tight stop on that due to the market being panicy lately.

And as you know I'm up 58%+ or whatever on LendingClub but that doesn't really count.

HEDJ is one way to play short Euro, long European equities.

DXJ does the same for Japan with decent success.

Not an experienced invester, 75% of my funds in a PP (30-30-30-10).  Looking at some sector funds (transportation, health care, electronics, reits) with the remainder, buying on dips and riding the wave, probably converting to cash 3-6 months out.  Everything is in tax shielded retirement accounts except for some cash in the bank, so no fees or taxes.

I'm out of India.  Screw it.  What I hate about longer term investing is you rack up a lot of small losses and kill your win percentage requiring you to really ride and milk a few winners to make up for it.

I thought India had got a good(ish) president in.  Thought they'd be in for a lot of growth due to easing of government restrictions.

I'm building up cash for the downturn. I buy all dividend-paying stocks and even bought a couple of preferred stocks that were attractively priced this week on Tuesday. My buying will be selective for 2015. No great rush for me. I practice risk management and I don't apologize for it.
