Time for a new browser

Post by Ad Orientem »

OK I am officially done with Firefox. I loved it for years but lately its been afflicted with just way too many bugs. Flash constantly crashes in the browser and whenever I am typing the cursor likes to just jump to other random parts of the text. Any suggestions for a replacement that will involve minimal heartburn? I have a lot of bookmarks etc that need to be migrated.

Chrome is great if you don't mind that it's made by Google. There's a linux version called Chromium that's a bit less Googley. On a Mac, Safari is good too. Very fast, though not quite as customizable as Chrome. I don't think the Windows version is any good, if it even still exists, and needless to say, there's no Linux version.

OK I am on Chrome now. I will give an update in a day or two after I have gotten a feel for it.

How is Chrome working out for you, Ad O?

If been thinking about it because my image search shortcut broke yesterday. I still think Chrome is the best browser (I like firefox, too), but every once in a while this stuff breaks. I can still search Yahoo finance for a ticker, Amazon, etc, directly from the address bar without going to the site first, but google images no longer.

You can start your search in the address bar with "define:" or "weather" for quick and handy results.

Let us know if you want any Chrome tips.

So far so good. The migration of the links from Firefox went very smoothly. And I am having far fewer problems with crashes etc.

:) You want Chrome tips, Tenn? Any particular area?
A random one: Ctrl-Shift-N opens a new window for Incognito surfing. Your browser activity in this window will not be remembered. It's useful for sites you might be ashamed of surfing when the people who share your computer sign on. (This is all a part of evolution).

{For the Mac, that's (cmd)?-Shift-N, unless you switched Cmd? and Ctrl in Settings, like I did}.

Oh, you know, cuteoverload dot com and stuff like that. Don't want to get teased for checking out pictures of piglets and kittens.  ;) And fox news.

I just noticed the entry for Google Chrome at TL;DR WIKIPEDIA:
Google Chrome is the worst thing to happen to Internet Explorer since Internet Explorer.

This probably has more to do with the age of my computer than Chrome, but I noticed that this forum gets a gmail icon (red 'M') in its tab until I click on a link like "Unread Posts." After that, it gets the generic white rectangle with the upper right corner turned down.
