Americans' views of various industries

Post by Pointedstick »

Gallup has the results of a neat poll:

"The federal government", while not really an industry, is rated worse than even the oil and gas industry!
Human behavior is economic behavior. The particulars may vary, but competition for limited resources remains a constant.

Well, that sucks!  "Retired" isn't even listed as an industry.  Does that mean the view of us retired people is lower than the federal government - or so high it would have been embarrassing to show number?

From your link:
The perennially negative image of the oil and gas industry, for example, may reflect concerns about the effect this industry has on the environment, as well as about the sometimes seemingly unexplainable increases in gasoline prices at times when the industry is making high levels of profits. The positive image of the restaurant industry could reflect the wide variety of restaurants available for the public to choose from, particularly in regard to cost, and that dining out is often associated with pleasure and friends or family.
This was the paragraph I was looking for, because it's how I feel. Restaurants can can have bad days, but you tend to return to the places where you like. Waitresses who smile at you even if they don't like you, crispy things, fat and salt. Nothing not to like there.

Oil industry - dying birds with black feathers on tv, and bills at home. On the other side of it, people take their cheap gasoline for granted.

I do find it interesting that accounting scored above average and publishing scored below. I guess you can't chalk everything up to the above.

The following might help understand the view of the federal government:

The year was 1947. Some of you will recall that on July 8, 1947, a little more than 66 years ago, numerous witnesses claim that an Unidentified Flying Object, (UFO), with five aliens aboard, crashed onto a sheep and mule ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico.  This is a well-known incident that many say has long been covered-up by the U.S. Air Force, as well as  other Federal Agencies and Organizations.

However, what you may NOT know is that in the month of April, year 1948, nine months after the historic day, the following people were born:

Barrack Obama Sr.

Albert A. Gore, Jr.

Hillary Rodham

William J. Clinton

John F. Kerry

Howard Dean

Nancy Pelosi

Dianne Feinstein

Charles E. Schumer

Barbara Boxer

Joe Biden

This is the obvious consequence of aliens breeding with sheep and jack-asses.  I truly hope this bit of information clears up a lot of things for you. It certainly did for me.  And now you can stop wondering why they support the bill to help Illegal Aliens.

It's funny, but it isn't really even close to being true.

Damn it.

I should have guessed with Pelosi. There's no way she's under 100. Looking at the list again there are quite a few fossils. I just scanned it the first time.

Bagghhh I'll forward it anyway.

Sure, I can't imagine why you are questioning authenticity.  I got it from the source the Men in Black used to determine when there was going to be an Alien invation.  Gestation periods and birthdays have been modified in the popular press to protect the guilty.    :o

Oh, I forgot to add:  Do you know if Pelosi gets one more face lift she will have a mole on each cheek and a goatee?  ;)
