Another tragic side effect of the war on drugs and the Iraq war.

Unfortunately, I think the most likely result is increasing tension between the police and the people, leading to an even stronger bunker mentality among the police and even greater tragedies. Things might have to get worse before enough people are jolted out of their reflexive "the police are good guys" assumption that's drilled into them since birth.
