Do you buy land and houses/apartments or pavillions to rent ?

Hello PP friends!

Do you prefer to keep all your savings in PP or you also diversify ?

I wonder if we should buy LAND, or apartments to rent or pavillions to rent to factories ...

Please advise.

Thank so much.

Re: Read the Permanent Portfoilio Bible?

Yes definitely read Best Laid Plans! It is an outstanding and very thorough debunking of just about every strategy ever used to try to beat the market: momentum, moving average signals, guru predictions etc. By the time you get through it, you'll become naturally suspicious every time you hear some...

Thank you so much! ^-^ Best Laid should be read to squash all desire to go outside of the PP with the money you cant affordable to lose. It’s insane ho...

Good!

I like to use several tickers for the same asset.

This is not mentioned by HB but i believe it reduces the risk.

Please comment.

Re: EU PP 2016-2019

For info again: Amundi started a gold ETC last May. Perhaps of interest to European PP investors as Amundi is owned by Crédit Agricole, which is the biggest bank in France and so relatively secure. Backed by physically allocated gold, held by HSBC. Thank you very much! What is the TICKER symbol? 8)

Re: EU PP 2016-2019

I see your point. The PP seems overly pessimistic in asking you to keep 25% in cash for a depression scenario. I find it hard as well to stick to it and kept the cash balance at 10-15% knowing that I could free up more cash if really necessary. So in my view you do need to keep a sufficient cash ba...

Re: EU PP 2016-2019

Hi,

what about doing EUPP only with:

GOLD
STOCKS
LT-BONDS

?

If you have more cash for any required adjust/balancing.

Thanks.

Good to hear from you frugal!!! Have you been lurking all this time? I think there are others who can answer your question far better than I. If your question translates as "can I get better returns by eliminating the cash component" then the answer is "yes, probably but not enough t...

Re: Yearly balancing or 15/35?

I've been checking monthly only because I got into the habit of tracking expenses and finances on a monthly basis. It's fun for tracking purposes, but checking asset proportions that often is like watching paint dry. Rebalance events happen every 2-3 years, more or less depending on how you're hand...

Shaymor I have been running a European PP for a while, also in France. I cannot say the results are good this year. For example, year to date: 1. My PP. This contains individual French blue chips and a DAX ETF: -1.3%. A paper four-ETF PP of CEU, MTH, GBS and C13 (similar to yours) which I follow fo...

Re: European PP, update 6 months after starting

Do you admit to change from EUPP to USPP in function of these true results? Hope I understand you correctly. As a european I would definitely not use a USPP portfolio, I use and will continue to use a strict EUPP. The reason why I am deep diving into US funds now is that in US there are so much mor...

Hello to you all. I am also an european (dutch) PP user. But then again I hate financials and bookkeeping so lost sight of the project. Begin this ye...

Re: European PP, update 6 months after starting

Hi Juandelarocha, -0.5% and 1.8% in a year doesn't mean much and sounds to me like you're focussing too much on short-term results. Both the PP and a more conventional stock-heavy porftfolio can go nowhere for 10 years. 1 year results are meaningless. It also seems you were expecting something diff...

Re: Permanent Portfolio in Europe (follow-up)

In that highly unlikely event, I would lose ~14% of the portfolio (but I'm sure the EU part would grow that much more as a consequence). I don't see any of those two extremes happening. That said, if I would have to bet on likelihood, I'd say it's far higher for the EUR to get devalued against the ...
