Re: Bonds and the PP -- still make sense?

If you look at short timeframes on the order of days or a few months, I agree. If you look at longer timeframes on the order of a couple of years or more, I think PP assets moving together tend to eventually separate and go their own ways again. I think that using TIME as a factor oversimplifies th...

Re: Safety Deposit Box Insurance

Relax. Keep a few coins on hand for bribes and 0-25% in AAAU. If you own your home thats part of your inflation protection. Why AAAU instead of IAU & SGOL? AAAU is redeemable in physical gold and backed by the Perth Mint. They have a good reputation compared to who holds the gold in other ETFs. htt...

Re: Best current options for cash and STT's?

What happens when SHV yields less than the ER? Do the fees start eating away at your cash? I have been looking to see if ETF's do the same as MM and cut or waive their expenses but I haven't found any info saying they do...

Re: Bond FAQ

Sorry about the delay here, everyone. I've made some effort to acquire crawlingroad.com, and it's a slow process. After a long delay I finally heard back, and offered $100 for it. Haven't heard anything since, but that might just be the normal delay for whoever it is who owns it. Or, I wasn't even ...

Re: Battle the Credit Bureaus ... and Win

Everybody seems to be providing free credit reports nowadays including Turbo Tax and Credit Karma so why is it so hard to get? Even the credit bureaus are required to provide one free report per year plus anytime you get declined due to information on the report. At least that used to be the law wh...

Re: Winkelvoss Capital says Bitcoin is a 10x better inflation hedge than gold

Gold has been used as money for 6,000 years, in many cultures all over the world and is still money today. Bitcoin has never been money. How can it be better than gold when it hasn't been around long enough to build a reputation? It's pure speculation.

Re: POLL: How did you overcome the fear of tracking error?

It’s tough - if I were to start right now. I am not sure I would buy in. One of my investment thesis is to buy things that are cheap. Right now nothing in the PP is cheap. It’s the opposite - very expensive. Cheap (or expensive) in relation to what? What it once cost? I remember meeting a gentleman...

Re: 401k Options for PP

Hi pp4me & Hal, Thanks for the responses. The 401(k) lemonade utilizing an intermediate treasury fund looks interesting, and I think may work for me. It seems I may have to decide which is more important, focusing on the overall strategy or having the "best" individual picks in each category. I am ...

It looks like a permanent portfolio that trusts the govt and doesn't believe gold is money. Then you have to pay extra for their management fees.

Re: Maximum Bond Upside

I remember in Harry Browne's radio show he mentioned LTT rates hit 1% or below during the great depression, and t-bills were negative. I believe a caller asked why would you buy negative rate bonds. Harry answered at the time banks were going bankrupt and were losing 100%, so if you only had to pay ...

Re: Investing Twice Monthly Into PP

The short answer of why you should care is this: behavioral economics. Harry Browne himself understood that the assets he enthusiastically supported in the 1970s (gold, silver, Swiss francs) gave way to other assets (stocks and bonds) in the 1980s. Is this not supporting the presupposition? Contrib...
