Re: P2P Lending
It sure looks like it. What makes me a bit uneasy is that you are "locked in" for 3-5 years depending on the loan durations you are financing, and the possibility of another recession where defaults can go up. That is the only thing that makes me hesitant in investing. Again on the issue o...

Re: P2P Lending
So are you saying that P2P lending is underutilized as an investment tool? If so, I would agree with you. Certainly in this abysmally low interest rate environment, it is very tempting to heave steady real returns ranging from 7-9% via P2P. Is it anymore of a risk than being fully invested in stocks...

Re: P2P Lending
Sounds to me like you're on the right track. You could try the set autoinvest instructions, ignore, and check back once a month approach. These aren't bond or equity "equivalents" - what an odd thought. They're the junkiest of junk bonds, which is the whole point. Yes you are right it'...

What of you think of these annuities offered by Vanguard and Fidelity? They are marketed as low cost.

Re: Is Intermittent Fasting Good For You?
Intermittent fasting, combined with caffeine, and strenuous exercise can crash the adrenals. Once that happens it can take quite a while to fix. Moreover, if the adrenals become sluggish or crash, then the thyroid starts to slow down. Adding too much iodine can rev-up your thyroid which also ends up...

Re: Why do you use the PP?
Exactly. There is nothing at all scary about the prospect of Greece leaving the Euro. They're an economically weak nation of 10 million with few significant exports and little military capacity. If some European hedge funds blow up, they blow up. But considering how long this crisis has been in the...

Re: Why is M2 money velocity at a multi-decade low?
How about this for a meta-explanation, just for giggles? It's automation kicking in...the more automation, the fewer employees are needed, and therefore money thrown into the economy to be used by businesses ends up enriching the investor/owner class instead of making its way down to employees like...

Re: Why is M2 money velocity at a multi-decade low?
Bumping this up in the hope that moda or someone else with econ chops will comment. My puny understanding is that people are deleveraging or paying down debt. They are not spending or borrowing much so a lot of the new money in the economy is stuck in banks. Or maybe with so much money sloshing aro...

Re: Was Harry Brown Wrong? Market Manipulation More Possible in 2015? Gold/Stocks?
Please, yes, someone answer that question! flagator, mentally I am very close to the points you make, and I was there years ago. However, since I got into the PP the only positive segments of the PP are stocks and bonds from the point I got in, which, quite honestly, I never would have expected, g...

Re: Was Harry Brown Wrong? Market Manipulation More Possible in 2015? Gold/Stocks?
That's the million dollar question no one on gold sites has an answer to. Basically, it is always trying to divine the latest reason gold has dropped, the next major event that is going to send gold back positive, and to "keep stacking." I just explained, it's not gold alone, it's the ent...

Re: No where to hide
This time the big winner may be the us dollar , gold's competitor. that will likely be the vehicle of choice today. I am not expecting much movement in gold or treasury's because the dollar is so strong by itself. As I write, the Euro is UP (yes, you read that correctly, UP) about 2.5% against the...

2. Donate blood. Can't do that
You can also have a "therapeutic phlebotomy" if you cannot donate blood. It usually requires a doctor's order / Rx.

Re: Gold spot vs GLD price discrepancy
Thank you for the clarification. I was looking at the gold closing quoted on the marketwatch website yesterday. They were quoting it being up over 2 % for the day (end of trading at 4 pm, yesterday) yet GLD was only up 1 .29 % for the day.

Gold spot vs GLD price discrepancy
Gold spot was up today by about 2.10 %, whereas GLD was up only 1.29% for the day. Why such a large discrepancy between the two? Isnt GLD supposed to track gold spot price? I understand that there maybe a tracking error but are we talking about 1 % per day worth of error, or is there another explana...

Hemochromatosis. Kresser is one smart (and generally openminded) dude. I'd go back and listen to the exact wording of what he actually said. In men there is no easy way for the body to get rid of iron (short of donating blood). You can reduce iron stores by taking rice bran extract, AKA IP-6. How...

Re: No where to hide
A conservative BH portfolio is 50/50. Gold could certainly underperform equities in the above scenario so the results are not conclusive with a flat to lower stock market. True for gold. However I imagine long term treasuries would fare somewhat better than the 50% of the Boglehead portfolio that i...
