Re: PP in today's world

I would be curious how many of the folks who are anxious about the PP are checking their balances every day or even more frequently. The people on this forum who seem to have peace of mind generally say that they don't check very often. I wonder if there shouldn't be a 17th rule added to HB's 16 th...

Re: Evolution discussion

Circular Logic.  Begging the question.  Assuming your conclusion.  Whatever you wish to call it. I can only take so much of it in any 24 hour period. Speaking of 24 hour periods I once asked one of the prominent creationists on the internet to explain this verse to me about the 4th day of creation....

Re: Evolution discussion

One more comment.  Before the "fall or curse" everything was as God intended and time did not exist.  Time and death and corruption began at the "fall/curse". Sounds like standard boilerplate Biblical literalist/fundamentalist Christian doctrine to me. I've read the book of Gene...

Re: Evolution discussion

why Genesis can be trusted as real history of Creation about 6000 years ago and a global Flood. I have no problem with the concept of intelligent design but if this means I have to believe that the earth was created in 7 literal 24 hour days only 6000 years ago and that the loving and forgiving cre...

Re: Figuring Out Religion

What you are missing, moda, is Revelation. Absolutely. Good folks on here like Mountaineer try to convince you of the power of what they think are reasonable arguments but Jesus said "Unless a man be born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God". Either something happens on the inside or i...

Re: Maxing Out 401(k) Contributions

My employer plan automatically stops at the cutoff (plus an extra 5k for those of us old enough) but my wife's plan allows contributions beyond the max. I have no clue what that is all about. Why would anybody want to contribute extra to a plan where they might be double taxed, i.e., on the way in a...

If you have an interpretation of reality that exists in the 2nd realm, please feel free to share it, but acknowledge that it is subjective, untestable, and that there's no reason we should listen to you vs anyone else. Made me think of the Apostle Paul in the New Testament who claimed to have been ...

Absolutely. I've been drinking Blue Moon lately and when I saw them come out with the pumpkin beer I didn't think I would like it but I was wrong.

Still prefer it with a slice of orange but I think the pumpkin flavor really is nice.

Re: Do Animals Have Rights

I once heard someone say that they are ready to grant animals the same rights as humans when they organize and demand them for themselves. That pretty much sums up how I feel about it. And a corollary of my own to that idea would be that I'm ready to recognize their rights when they are ready to rec...

Re: Self-Driving Cars

The main thing I wonder about is how the computer could know certain things, like the fact that there is a big curve of X degrees up ahead and I therefore need to slow down to Y miles per hour in Z feet. I'm sure they have some technology that does this somehow but I can't help but wonder how foolp...

Here are the latest Letters.  Each Letter, a short chapter in the book "What They Need to Hear" by Klemet Preus tends to build on prior material.  They begin with " Preface " in my August 6 post; the preface discusses the purpose of the book. Letter 83 - Heaven: The Work of Jesu...

This is the best news I've heard in a long time. I was having pains in my stomach starting some time last year and thinking alcohol might be the culprit I mostly gave it up for almost all of 2014. Even though I'm mostly scientifically illiterate on this subject I think I kind of get evolution and can see some truth in it. But what do you do with the fact that the human brain seems to be programmed to ask where did it all come from and how did it start? Can you really blame people thus program...

Re: The Pitchforks Are Coming For Us Plutocrats

On Drudge I saw that this was also a day of fast food workers protesting for a minimum wage of $15/hour. Had to think about that for a moment. This would mean that a two-parent family could make a very decent life for themselves even though neither one of them possessed any marketable skills just by...

Fred Reed's perspective on the Ferguson thing. As usual, much too rational to be taken seriously.

So when the temperature monitoring stations pump out numbers that show a cooler summer the deniers cite this as evidence that global warming is a farse. Yet, when the stations put out warmer than average numbers they are broken and dont work well. I make similar observations from the skeptical side...
