Re: Gold as an inflation hedge - really?
Tortoise - Thanks much, I checked out the links you mention and they are very informative. Seems like some people really believe in gold, and others are willing to switch it up and time things in order to go for yield. I guess my next question is: if one does not intend to hold physical gold, is &qu...

Gold as an inflation hedge - really?
I understand the concept of holding 25% gold to deal with inflation. However from my research online it seems gold actually does not move with real inflation (but spikes with fears of hyperinflation). At the risk of PP heresy, to actually guard against inflation wouldn't it make more sense to invest...

Re: 43+ Years of the PP
Rebalanced to 4x25% each year sounds like a good idea. I wonder if that works even better than the 15/35 bands?
Did you happen to come up with an average rate return?
Thanks again!

Backtesting for Starting Years
Dear PP gurus - It seems that the ongoing returns of a specific PP would be affected to a large degree on the conditions when it is first set up. For example, if one set it up with 4x25 just before the 2001 crash, it would have lost a lot of money in stocks initially, compared to one set up right af...

Re: 43+ Years of the PP
Very interesting chart! I assume the first year started with the 4x25 allocations.
Was it re-balanced yearly according to the 15/35 boundary rule? Or was it rebalanced back to 4x25 each year?
Thanks!

First time allocations
Dear PP gurus: I am very interested in allocating based on the PP, but confess to having some reluctance to putting 25% into bonds with the current interest rate situation. Also - in my subjective opinion, gold seems to have had such a runup over the last 5-10 years, that I would expect it to lose s...

Re: Priority of sectors to taxable/non-taxable accounts
Thanks all! Dualstow: So is it possible the tax allocations HB recommended are not appropriate these days, with interest rates so low? Should one adjust the allocations as conditions change? notsheigetz: yes, sorry I meant tax-deferred. Pointedstick: Are suggesting that each account have it's own 4x...

Priority of sectors to taxable/non-taxable accounts
Dear PP gurus: I am trying to understand allocation of the four sectors to taxable vs. tax-deferred accounts. However, I am getting conflicting info, which also does not make sense: HB says to use the tax-deferred accounts first for sectors in the following order of priority 1) Treasuries, 2) Bonds,...

Allocation classes all up?
My understanding is that the PP allocations take advantage of the fact that the asset classes are not correlated, and that at any given time one or two are up and one or two are down. However in the current environment it seems like all three are up (stocks, bonds, gold all near all time highs-) and...

Re: Getting Started
I have the same question. In fact with stocks, bonds, and gold all at near record highs, (and cash always stable)
which of the classes is doing poorly now?

Timing gold purchase?
I understand that we don't want to time the market. However... with gold prices where they are, would it be worthwhile to dollar-cost average in? Or allott less than 25% until prices come down? I understand there are no guarantees that it is coming down anytime soon, but being at its all time high p...
