Re: Gold is sinking. Don't look!

I'm very new to pp too.  Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but why should we regularly monitor the price of gold?  Isn't the presence of gold more like an insurance component, rather than an active investment?  Wouldn't it be just depressing to continually watch it?  I think the value of gold will...

Re: The Return Characteristics of Diamonds

Are diamonds fungible already?  Gold is great cuz 'God doesn't make it anymore'.  But doesn't the ability to synthesize diamonds...a method they constantly improve on...undermine diamonds as a long term investment?

Re: Geographic diversification in gold stored in Hong Kong, a good idea?

globalcash, i'm by no means an expert, but i have contemplated some of the same ideas as you. i have lived in Hong Kong, Singapore and currently Shanghai- total for 20 of past 25 yrs. in these locales. Overall, i can say that SGP might offer a bit longer term safer place to have gold storage than H...

Re: What gold coins have the highest resale value?

I'm still in the learning phase, but from what I understand, yes, we need to buy gold as cheap as possible, and get to sell it as easily as possible come that future time.  As I continue my research, it seems that Hong kong and Singapore have very little margin above their cost, as in a fraction of ...

Re: Geographic diversification in gold stored in Hong Kong, a good idea?

Thanks for all the input! Hong kong seems to be a good place to buy gold(choose wisely where), given the sheer number of competition, you can get a good price.  But I guess, not to store it there for the long run! Unfortunately, I'm here in Asia and the US and Europe is not as accessible.  It seems ...

Re: Geographic diversification in gold stored in Hong Kong, a good idea?

Yup, kinda scares me too.  But gold seems to be an obsession in HK.  The biggest banks in hk all sell gold, either as physical, paper, and from what I gather, as a 'currency'.  You can practically trade paper gold in most banks, banks like hang seng, BEA, bank or china, wing hang, etc., etc. Some ha...

Re: What gold coins have the highest resale value?

Thanks!  Eagles seem harder to find here in Asia.  Maples are more common, and pandas even more...oddly enough, in another forum on gold I frequent, some pandas have 'copper imperfections'.  Is this normal?

What gold coins have the highest resale value?

I'm about to purchase some coins, but I notice in kitco, the spread between buy and sell varies.  Do some coins appreciate more, barring any numismatic value?

Re: Geographic diversification in gold stored in Hong Kong, a good idea?

'much appreciated! I do have accounts in Singapore too...I just find it less interesting to spend vacation in, ha ha. What I noticed about HK is that you can buy gold practically everywhere...it's like trying to buy Starbucks in the US.  Singapore, on the other hand, there are only two banks that se...

Geographic diversification in gold stored in Hong Kong, a good idea?

I'm intending to take a short vacation to Hong Kong, and intend to buy my very first purchase of gold (coins) to kick off my pp.  I'm buying about US$350K+ for my first allocation, then store them there, either rent a bank's safe deposit box or a non-bank repository. Is this a good idea?  It being m...

Re: Most Appealing Aspect of PP Strategy

The size of the portfolio is irrelevant. Speaking in terms of percentage gain or loss ensures a common perspective for all investors. I don't think it is irrelevant. IMHO it is not I have 20 million invested in the PP. How do you intend to use this information? A better question is what % of your p...

Re: Jumping into the PP

Thanks Ryan, helps to know you had similar experience! My understanding is that the PP works because the asset classes react differently to a particular economic condition - losses in one class get compensated by gains in another.. What i'm seeing in the Singapore market is very strange(i'm no econ...
