Re: Trading 5 Taliban Mass Murderers For 1 US Deserter
Negotiating with terrorists is beyond stupid. But its nothing new and nothing unique with OBAMA!, so don't get your panties all twisted into a bunch just because he's a Democrat and you're a Republican. 1. I'm not a Republican. 2. Who pissed in your cheerios? 3. Obama gets a pass for being a dum...

Re: Trading 5 Taliban Mass Murderers For 1 US Deserter
The high ranking Nazis captured during WWII killed millions, and they were given a trial and subsequent hanging. A trial doesn't preclude execution, I'm not sure why so many on the right are so fearful of a trial and think indefinite detention is superior. Why keep these people around if you truly...

Re: Trading 5 Taliban Mass Murderers For 1 US Deserter
The reports are that at least 6 US servicemen died in Afghanistan trying to recover this deserter. How many people will die in the future as the result of releasing these mass murderers back into the field? Sometimes wild animals belong in cages. Why not just put them down, then? Serious question....

Solution to the Obamacare premium hike found
I'm not sure it's a "lie" as the author puts it, but I'll admit, this is a clever way to avoid the rate hikes that were inevitable and stave off the wave of fail that was headed to everyone on Obamacare, ::). Pain delayed is pain avoided, right? I didn't anticipate this, mostly because ...

Re: Left and Right against war
I still don't see what the problem with open borders are that we've had for 200 years or so of our history. Its up to a state whether or not to give benefits to undocument immigrants. Even here in CA, extremely limited scope Medi-Cal is all that can be gotten. If no state did offer benefits, wou...

China running plays out of Putin's playbook?

The Chinese pretext over this conflict or potential conflict is even thinner than the Russian bullshit, what with their "we own the entire South China Sea" nonsense.

It reminds me of the pervasive future adverts in, often dystopic, sci-fi movies where you walk past the advertisement and it changes to a picture of you or says your name.
The future is now.
The future is now.

I'd quit any and every job that forced me to strap a camera to my face so I could spy on my customers, or anyone for that matter. Thanks Google for leading the charge into our privacy free society! The government may have started the fire, but you made it "cool," or at least socially acce...

Re: What’s gone wrong with democracy?
My views are somewhat radical and don't align well with quite a bit of this forum, as I believe in involuntary civil service (in certain situations). For example, if our nation were under attack, I would support a draft (but not for foreign wars). Along this type of line, I would like to see an ex...

Re: What’s gone wrong with democracy?
The citizenry went wrong with democracy. Democracy is a deeply flawed political system that could be, at best, described as the "least bad" idea that we've come up with. I no longer subscribe to this theory (that it's the least bad), but supposedly, the rest of the country does. However...

False identification of Russian special forces? Didn't Kerry recently say that we had intercepted communications between Russia and the "Pro-Russian rebels" in which the Russians were giving them their marching orders? I don't know if it's relevant, but the author is about as far left as ...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine. Should We Care?
Putin just wants the shale gas, shale oil and transport pipelines in Crimea. Everything else is just a smokescreen. If the USSR was restablished at worse, no one would have any money to pay for their energy from Russia, so that's just not going to happen. Use common sense, people! Greed uber al...

http://news.yahoo.com/biden-pledges-support-ukraines-pro-western-leaders-094545214.html It is pretty interesting that pretty much everything the anti-Russian folks have been saying from the start appears to be true. The riots have been caused or backed by Russian forces, the "pro-Russian"...

Re: Putin Invades Ukraine. Should We Care?
It appears as if our newly enlightened President might have finally done something right (along the lines of a broken watch being right twice a day?): "US troops arrive in Poland for exercises across Eastern Europe amid Ukraine crisis" "WASHINGTON – U.S. Army paratroopers are arrivi...

The nasty thing is now you have to be careful about trying to buy insurance outside of the open enrollment period. Re: For the love of money
I think it's possible to earn and have money without "loving" it to the point of being corrupted by it. The idea that we all have to go join a cloister and take a vow of poverty strikes me as being ridiculous on its face. I'm sure some people believe that, but I think they're fools and I...

Re: Russian Fighter Jet Buzzes US Navy Ship What Should We Do?
If it happens agains we could always send up a jet of our own and get a missile lock, Top Gun style. I'm no expert, but I'd put that at the same level of escalation as a soldier pointing a gun at another without firing. Unfortunate, but not an act of war. A wiser course of action would be to ignore ...

Refund seized to pay parent's debt
Apparently this is a thing now? Sins of the parent visited to the 7th generation, biblical style? I didn't have the energy to hunt down a text story, so you get the video newscast, but in essence the government is seizing tax refunds to recoup what they see as debts owed due to, in this particular...

Apparently the rancher paid the grazing fees for years before stopping. The story put forth was that it was a result of conflict with the BLM as a protest. I'm not sure how much the fees are, but he may have been better served to have paid the fees and left them with no legal recourse to remove hi...

Re: U.S. Navy to Test Electromagnetic Rail Gun by 2016
Let's face it. Sometimes jet fuel is better than seawater....even at twice the energy requirement required to produce it. Yes. The point of this technology is not to save energy, or to reduce CO2. The point is to solve the logistics problem of how to move a whole bunch of jet fuel available to plan...

Ha, that's a good analogy.Pointedstick wrote: Yeah, it's like how an amusing number of anti-gay politicians have been caught with gay prostitutes or in secret gay affairs or something.
How's that quote go..."the d-bag politician doth protest too much, methinks." I may have tweaked it a bit.
