Re: Global PP
I should have mentioned that the question was geared more towards people who live and work outside the US. It was also about balancing existing assets vs. future earnings. Does it make sense to concentrate everything into one currency, or should people look at their total wealth and try to diversi...

Global PP
Just a question for some of the more experienced posters on here. Given that for most people, their 2 biggest assets are their future earnings from their day job and their home, which are both denominated in their domestic currency, why wouldn't a global PP as opposed to a domestic PP make sense as...

Re: A PP Tweak with some Theoretical and Empirical Logic
You can make a case for either approach, but i think for the majority of investors they're better off sticking with the combo of 25% cash and 25% LTT's. When you combine the two it gives you roughly an equal volatility to what you're getting from each of stocks and gold, so it gives you something v...

Stocks rewarding investors in times of growth?
I was just hoping for some opinions on whether stocks truly compensate investors in times of growth/prosperity. Plenty of people argue that the link between GDP growth and stock market returns is pretty tenuous, and even negative in some cases (see GMO: Reports Of The Death Of Equities Have Been Gr...

"Real" Assets
Sorry if someone has already posted, but I thought this was interesting. In short, the author finds that T-Bills have actually been a great inflation hedge, energy and real estate were so-so, and TIPS and gold weren't very effective.

Re: What If Saturated Fats Are Essential?
Has anyone on here read Gary Taubes latest book? Pretty interesting read. He spends the first half explaining why he thinks calories in = calories out is bunk, and then the 2nd half explaining why sugar and carbs are a problem and why we need to replace alot of those calories with fats. Read it wi...

Re: Questions about PP from Japan
The papers did not compare to value, momentum, or quality In terms of style performance, Value massively outperformed Momentum in Japan since the early 80's. The two tend to be negatively correlated though so combining them both has paid off. Cliff Asness has a paper coming out in the Journal of Po...

Re: Questions about PP from Japan
Hi Arturo, I agree, if that number is true it would make things look alot better. The other thing that stands out to me is how much the strength of the yen hurt the gold portion of the PP return from a Japanese investor's perspective. If you look at Gold as a put on your currency though it makes s...

Re: Questions about PP from Japan
Thanks for the response Gosso. It makes sense, it's just that the measurement of Japanese CPI has been called into question for some time now. In this article the authors estimate the CPI in Japan has been overstated by around 2% a year, which would make a huge difference in real return if true. ht...

Re: Questions about PP from Japan
For those who have looked at this in detail, if we were to include the increase in global purchasing power due to yen appreciation, would that improve the true real return to something a little closer to what you would have earned in a UK or US PP? Presumably the cost of anything you're importing h...
