Re: The GOLD scream room
dualstow, stop loss is more of a price-point whereas what I was suggesting is more of a momentum indicator. Half of my liquid assets are following the 25/25/25/25 PP. However, I just cannot sit back and watch an asset class fall 10%-30%. Too much volatility for me even though one or two of the r...

Re: The GOLD scream room
Here is a thought for those holding Gold ETFs as all or part of their Gold holdings... When the 50 day SMA crosses below the 200 day SMA, sell the Gold ETF, keep it in cash, until the 50 SMA crosses back above the 200 SMA. Then you will not have to watch the ugly fall. For that matter, you can "...

PP LT Bond Allocation
With unprecedented Fed bond buying and the inevitable coming rise in interest rates, would it be an acceptable option to move from a passive LT bond index fund like TLT to a more actively managed bond fund like SUBYX to better cope with the coming Bond Bear Market?

I almost feel sorry for Catacomb... until, I remember losing over $200,000.00 in 2008-2009 with my Boglehead-type Portfolio. No one that I know or follow... I mean no one... saw that coming! Not even Bob Brinker, the MarketTimer! At least Goldman Sachs predicted the sell down of gold back in May. Ha...

I agree with melveyr! Investment is fraught with risk...even market manipulation risk! A stock and bond market that depends upon cash infusions from the Federal Reserve through the banks for stability and at the same time throwing retirees/savers under the bus. Massive selling of gold positions to c...

Gold down 20% and my Permanent Portfolio is only down less than 4% since last fall! Looks like the Permanent Portfolio is working like Craig, Medium Tex, and Harry said it should! Since the market disaster in 2008, I only concern myself with the downside of investing while letting the upside take ca...

Re: Permanent Portfolio
Stocks, Bonds, and Gold have given a historical average return of 9%. Therefore, when adjusted down for the 25% Cash position, the PP must return a percentage above inflation. Without the cash position, the PP would be unable to take advantage of buying opportunities while giving the rest of the por...

TennPaGa: I guess the only solution to our debt problem [that appears to be a big part of this economy otherwise why would the U.S. borrow for stimulus spending] is more debt! I suppose a monetary system built on borrowed money can only thrive on more borrowed money! Debt has become so mainstream th...

Re: Troubled Waters Ahead for the PP
Medium Tex: is your point that the prosperity of the 80s and 90s bought on credit is to be viewed as a good thing? I am confused as to your point because I recall prosperity coming about in the 80s by a more favorable tax environment with pro-business and less government leadership affecting the eco...

Re: Troubled Waters Ahead for the PP
I find very interesting the postings in this thread of those who contemplate changing their investment direction to chase returns from an economy engineered to look like prosperity! What economy in the past has borrowed its way to prosperity? I wish I had an Investing Crystal Ball but I could not fi...

Julian, I enjoy listening to your show! Your explanation of how you advise your clients makes more clear sense than any other financial planning program I have listened to in the past 40 years... American Asset Management Inc. Boca Raton, Fl. looks like they are selling advice on an asset portfolio that looks identical to HB's PP. Anyone know anything more about this company and it's founder?
