Re: Best Recipes

I haven't posted in a while, but this piqued my interest.  Here is a great recipe from Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking:  Fondue de Poulet a la Creme. http://darcy-dearest.blogspot.com/2012/07/fondue-de-poulet-la-creme.html It's more or less cream chicken.  There are a good number o...

Re: Guess What's Destroying the Middle Class?

I wonder if the whole thing about the middle class being "destroyed" is overstated.  The middle class 30 years ago didn't save any more than they are today, and they didn't have iPhones, iPads, laptops, XBoxes, Wiis, DVRs, GPS navigators, enormous refrigerators, central air conditioning, 6000 sq ft...

(143 + (3.90 x N)) / (26 + N) = 4.89
^^ Well done.

(143 + (3.9 x N)) = (26 + N) * 4.89

143 + (3.9 x N) = 4.89*26 + 4.89*N

143 - 4.89*26 = 4.89*N - 3.9*N

N = (143 - 4.89*26) / (4.89 - 3.9) = 16.02

Yes, seems like parentheses are missing somewhere.

Re: Ting for Cell Phone Service (Potential Cost Saver)

For those who are interested in alternative wireless plans: Google just launched a new wireless service yesterday, called Project Fi. It's currently invite only.  You need a Nexus 6.  It uses Wifi + Sprint + T-Mobile and is supposed to switch seamlessly between them.  $20 base price, plus $10/GB, an...

Thanks for all the discussion here everyone. I wasn't sure which way to go at first, I think I've been convinced to go with management's position.

Re: Which "buy it for life" items you own?

Hey dualstow, I'm not too familiar with the Porter Cable tools, so I'm not sure how they hold up.  I've become more wary of a lot of the online articles suggesting one item as the best, as it seems they usually end up being sponsored (and not disclosed).  It's hard to know if you're getting an hones...

Re: Which "buy it for life" items you own?

That is so funny , gizmo_rat , as I actually looked into the drill bits at the same time that I posted! :D Someone posted a link to them on reddit where I was searching for info on "barista wrist." Amazon ASIN# B000NPXHUM I probably will get the drill bits for the future, but since I need 150ml of ...

Re: Best iPhone Apps (or Android)

Have you looked at RedPhone/TextSecure (Android) and Signal (ios)?  I haven't used them but they supposedly are quite good.  The apple messaging that routes online is supposed to be pretty secure too, although that one is not cross platform.

Re: Sell 25 buy 30 yrs bonds (no tax on cap gains)

I guess my thought at the end of the day would be to just buy some EDV and forget about it if you want to extend the duration (increase volatility) some more.  Messing around buying and selling individual treasuries is a lot of hassle, and IIRC some have said they faced unforeseen transaction costs ...
