Re: Confused when to rebalance

Welcome Belhawk. Rebalancing also looks different when you are adding regularly to your portfolio.  Some people recommend adding all new money to cash and then rebalancing when cash gets to be 35% of your total PP.  Other people buy lagging assets when adding new money.  Thereby restoring a 4 x 25 p...

Oh, Kobe1, Obi Wan. I get it, I get it. Nice.  :)
Aw shucks guys, it's nice to be remembered.  FYI, the Jedi are not gone, we are just lurking in the shadows.

Re: Order in which to keep assets tax sheltered

Hi DragonJoey and welcome to the forum. I had the same questions when I began my PP.  There was a current thread that discussed this topic and all participants seemed to agree on which assets should go into what types of accounts.  So I took their advice.  As it turns out, there is more to this deci...

Re: Portfolio Review - How to transition to HBPP?

Hi Lerxst and welcome to the forum. To me the HBPP is more than just an investment strategy.  It incorporates a way of looking at life.  If that piece does not resonate with you, then perhaps using the PP mutual funds (PRPFX or PERM) will provide the asset allocation you are looking for without all ...

Re: New PP before Q4 2012 or stay in cash?

Welcome to the forum. My first recommendation is to do enough research that you are comfortable with the PP strategy.  Because at the end of the day it is your money and there are very real consequences to investment decisions. Also, keep in mind that there are many implementation details that exist...

Re: Ready to make switch but not sure where to begin...

Just started implementing PP strategy.  Thanks for the feedback. Instead of plunking a huge amount of $ into TLT and IAU at one time, wouldn't it make sense to buy on dips or dollar avg cost into each investment? I felt the same way when I started.  Everything that I read said that gold was just ab...

Re: Im NEW and STUPID......

It's very exciting to take the plunge. I think it is a good idea to have some of each asset class represented in each account.  As your balance grows you might want to diversify between more than one broker and two complete portfolios will provide you with a better balance in case something were to ...

Re: Love What You Do

I have thought a lot about this.  I have come to the conclusion that as long as I limit my career to the 40 hours per week that is required, then I'll be able to do the "fun" stuff in the evenings and weekends. Gosso, I was not so much talking about doing the "fun" stuff, as I w...

Re: Love What You Do

Gosso, One thing to keep in mind is that you are only young once.  With no wife or kids you have options now that might not exist in the future.  You can take more chances now, push the boundaries of yourself and life a little.  There is plenty of time for a serious career later.  You might not end ...

(Also, there appears to be a $10,000 minimum for each block of treasurys). dualstow, The $10K minimum is only for new issues purchased at auction.  On the secondary market you can buy in blocks of $1K.  In your Vanguard account, go to research funds and stocks, then find bonds and CD's, then select...

Loading trucks for FedEx or UPS will give you quite a workout.  The boxes come down a conveyor belt and you run them to the trucks.  It might be third shift work, but I think they provide benefits for part timers.

Re: pros and cons of self insurance?

What I am wondering is could you put together a rational for deciding when to self insure?  For example, if you save $50 a month to increase your deductible from $1,000 a year to $5,000 a year then if you don't have more than $1,000 in medical expenses for almost 7 years you will have saved the $4,0...

pros and cons of self insurance?

Has anyone given this subject serious thought? Conceptually, each month you save some or all of your current insurance premium to cash and every six months or so you buy PRPFX (with 10% EDV of course).  You could do this with some or all of your insurance policies and extended warranties.  Years dow...

Thanks for the invite MT.

I have been lurking/enjoying this forum for the past two years.  I went 50% into the HBPP in 2010 and 100% in 2011.

Thanks to all who participate in this forum, especially craigr and MT, for all of the great ideas/advice/support.  You guys make the DIY PP possible.
