Re: 2 PP Portfolios, 6 months performance

Agree with all. The PP has not been kind to investors this year, nor has it been terrible. Remember Harry Browne said to look at your portfolio annually. I'm sure no one here, including myself adheres to that rule. In 2008 the PP suffered a loss of about 2%. Given the circumstances of that year, wha...

Re: 2 PP Portfolios, 6 months performance

Those who had a stock heavy portfolio in 2008 will tend to view things differently (I think). It was very scary seeing the possibility of the U.S. including the stock market failing.

Re: 2 PP Portfolios, 6 months performance

I follow PP with 30/20 bands and a slice of Wellesley in VP. Current portfolio balance is almost the same as starting balance from 8 years ago with a 5-6% withdrawal in retirement.

Re: Wellesley

Have not posted for sometime but wanted to comment on Wellesley, HBPP and withdrawal rates. We finally discovered HBPP in 2009 and implemented in early 2011 with a chunk of Wellesley in VP. Currently have about 60% in HBPP with 30% in Wellesley with 10% in misc. old accounts and extra cash. I have b...

Re: Question for original forum members

I think the Other folder is a double edged sword here. On the one hand it keeps some members active. On the other hand, it has driven some away either by their or the moderators' choice. Let's face it, the PP is a boring-ass portfolio. After a while there just isn't a lot to say about it--or its co...

Re: New to Permanent Portfolio

My own personal PP is completely separate from VWINX and outside cash. It is held in both IRA, one other brokerage account and savings account. I rebalance using 30 - 20 bands. I know that 35 - 25 bands may produce a slightly higher CAGR but my primary interest is portfolio stability with nominal af...

Re: Maximum Bond Upside

This year will be my first RMD. Sold TLT at 136 to rebalance into cash. When one asset in PP is either up or down quite a bit, it is a good idea to check rebalance bands. A little luck doesn't hurt either.

Re: Maximum Bond Upside

I started PP in 2011. Held my nose and bought LTT's at 4.25%. Have rebalanced twice out of LTT's since. Who would have guessed? If you hit a rebalance band, stick to the plan.

Re: New to Permanent Portfolio

barrett, Income was part of the reason plus wanting some exposure to corporate bonds, which Wellesley has and not wanting to put all eggs in one basket. It's a very conservative portfolio but suits me well in retirement. Of course the first half of the year when the PP was on a tear, I wished all as...

Re: New to Permanent Portfolio

Have been checking the forum the past couple of weeks and noticed a number of posts regarding PP being down quite a bit from the years high and also noticed my PP was down too. I started the PP in early 2011. Actually my portfolio consists of around 60 - 70% HBPP and 20 - 30% VWINX with a little ext...

Re: Running shoes/sneakers

Last fall we went to Spain for a month and anticipated doing a lot of walking. We went to a nearby Skechers outlet and ended up purchasing 2 pair of Skechers Gowalks. They are the most comfortable walking shoe I have ever worn. We walked 5 to 10 miles a day and never had any foot or leg problems.

Re: Alternative to PP

One of the major premises of portfolio construction according to HB, Warren Buffett or Jack Bogle is to keep the portfolio SIMPLE. I do not care to hold 25% in gold so I keep a separate HBPP for rebalance purposes at 70% of total portfolio value. This gives me a 17.5% exposure to gold and the other ...
