An incredible man and a giant in the financial services industry. Truly the conscience of Wall Street.

Memory eternal!

Some Tweet I saw somewhere but can no longer find pointed out that Bogle created a nonprofit with some 5 trillion dollars under management. The amount of money that is with retirees rather than in Bogle's pockets is staggering, making him one of the greatest "stealth philanthopers" of all time.

I only met him one time. He was a true gentleman, a rarity and getting rarer.

That must have been a meeting never to be forgotten, Mountaineer.

He was a truly amazing man, and one of the great role models of our time. It's hard not to contrast his outlook and contributions with that of people in supposedly more philanthropic professions than Wall Street finance.

I met Mr. Bogle at a Boglehead conference in Valley Forge, PA several years ago. I observed him graciously signing his books and briefly chatting with all who came by his table. He was completely humble and unpretentious, a rarity for one so well off and so highly regarded. I subsequently toured the Vanguard facility; everyone I met held him in very high regard.

I only know of him from a few Youtube videos. What I remember most is being impressed by how mentally sharp he still was for a man his age and I found that encouraging.

First heart attack at 31. His doctors didn't think he'd make it to 40.

Very nice, Mountaineer.

In an era that so often seemed to be defined by financial crooks, thieves, con men, and charlatans is it not simply amazing that one honest man could do so much good for so many?
